The following area residents were among students to graduate from Morrisville State College in May.

Human Concerns, Oswego’s emergency food pantry, along with AmeriCorps member Evan Oustrich is conducting a backpack drive to aid the United Way’s Stuff-a-Bus campaign. They will be collecting both gently used and new backpacks. It will take place August 5-13.

Oswego AmeriCorps members Eryn and Tyffany Howlett are currently running the Summer Reading Program “Dig into Reading” at the Annie P. Ainsworth Memorial Library in Sandy Creek. This program is for children in Pre-K through fifth grade that have fun reading and enjoy being with other children who love to read.

Major General Patrick A. Murphy, the Adjutant General, announces the recent reenlistment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their continuing commitment to serve community, state and nation as part of the Army National Guard.

Are you interested in serving your community while earning money for school? Do you want to be part of a team that improves the lives of youth in Oswego County? The Oswego AmeriCorps program is seeking applications for the 2013-2014 term of service. Applications are currently being accepted for several 900-hour AmeriCorps positions that will start Oct. 1.

The Oswego County Health Department will hold a rabies clinic for cats, dogs, and pet ferrets from 6 to 8 p.m.  Aug. 7, at the Granby Town Highway Garage, 820 County Route 8. New York State law requires that all cats, dogs, and pet ferrets be vaccinated against rabies. The first rabies vaccine should be given at three months of age.

Oswego Players’ director, Sherri Baker, has released a cast list for the 75th anniversary fall production, “Don’t Drink the Water,” an uproarious comedy written by Woody Allen. The show takes place in a foreign embassy, where a family has sought asylum from the Communist police.

The Fulton Family YMCA is providing a night off for parents! On August 17  from 5 – 9 p.m. the Y will be booming from laughter and fun. Kids will be broken up in two different age groups ages 2-6 and 7-12. Kids in the 2-6 ages group will be active in games, arts and crafts and imaginary play.

In an effort to support the United Way Stuff-A-Bus campaign, area businesses will be selling paper buses to help raise money to purchase school supplies for students in Oswego County who are in need for the upcoming school year. Working in collaboration with school districts throughout Oswego County, United Way is looking to Stuff-A-Bus with school supplies.
