The quest for “academic excellence” was achieved by several Oswego Middle School students. As the recent school year neared completion awards were presented to OMS students by Principal Mary Beth Fierro, Assistant Principal Robyn Proud and the teaching staff.
Harmony Financial, one of the area’s newest financial services companies, recently celebrated the grand opening of its new office located at 31 E. First St., inside the historic former train station at the corner of East First and Cayuga streets.

Kathleen Allen and Samuel Tripp were elected as Oswego City School District Board of Education officers for the upcoming year. During the annual reorganizational meeting Allen became the new president of the board while Tripp will serve as the vice-president for the 2013-2014 year.
Test results show that the beach on Oneida Lake is safe for swimming, the Oswego County Health Department announced Wednesday. The beach was closed to swimming July 3 due to the presence of a blue-green algae bloom.
Jackie Gregg, Red Kettle chairman for Lacona-Sandy Creek and Salvation Army welfare secretary and Brandie Norton, fifth grade teacher and Stuff-a-Bus coordinator for the Sandy Creek Teachers Association help ensure students have what they need when school starts this fall.

Oswego County Head Start Pre-K continues to accept applications for September. The program enrolls three- and four-year-old children and is provided at no cost to families. Head Start’s goal is to promote school readiness through hands-on learning, active play, and nutritious meals and snacks.

The annual Nick Bergman Memorial Bass Tournament will be held on July 20 at Hooper’s Harbor Marina in Three Mile Bay. Nick was a sophomore at J.C. Birdlebough in Phoenix where he played football and basketball, however, his real passion was for fishing. There has been a tournament in Nick’s memory since 1999 when he died of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at age 15.
