Kingsford Park students from Mrs. Moxley’s fifth grade class had the chance to tour the Oswego Middle School Communications Technology Program. Earlier in the year, the students had a chance to tour OMS, where they were given the opportunity to observe an eighth grade broadcast of The Daily BUC.
For those interested in expanding or starting a small business in Oswego County, there is an online small business training class scheduled to begin in July. The course is scheduled to begin July 8 and run through August 24.
A bit of skill and a whole lot of luck could win you a car or $10,000 for a hole in one at the upcoming Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Annual Golf Social on June 17 at the Beaver Meadows Golf Club in Phoenix. Oswego Health staff members offered several hands-on learning opportunities at the recent Fairgrieve Elementary School Health and Science Fair. The students and their family members that attended the event could view actual medical images of various body parts and learn more about the services the radiology department provides to the community.
Minetto United Methodist Church will host a free dinner on June 23. Serving will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will be chicken and biscuits, mashed potatoes, vegetable and dessert. Donations are not expected but will be accepted.
Bridgette Seguin introduced Meg Henderson, Literacy Volunteers program coordinator, to the Fulton Noon Rotary Club at a recent meeting. Henderson gave the Rotarians an update on the activities of the Literacy Volunteers program.
The summer steward program coordinated by New York Sea Grant is expanding from Jefferson and Oswego counties to include waterfront sites in Cayuga, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Wayne counties. In 2013, the NYSG Launch Steward program that informs the public about the Lake Ontario and Oneida Lake and inland rivers environment is focused on offering voluntary watercraft inspection education to motorized and non-motorized boaters at 15 launch sites.
Oswego County Federal Credit Union in cooperation with the Oswego Youth Bureau will be sponsoring free open air Movies in the Park at 7 p.m. in East Park on the third Wednesday of each month from June through August
On this past Memorial Day, at Kinney Drugs in Mexico, Rachel Verdoliva and Karen Wing, Oswego AmeriCorps volunteers, organized a care package item collection drive for Operation Shoebox. This organization collects and delivers items in care packages to our service men and women overseas.
The 31st Annual Academic Awards Night was held this week at G. Ray Bodley High School. The prestigious ceremony recognized students in grades nine through twelve for outstanding scholastic achievement and excellence throughout the academic school year. Scholarship and monetary awards were presented on behalf of colleges and universities along with memorial awards in honor of former staff members and community members.
