For many in Oswego summer means a trip to Rudy’s Lakeside on “The Loop.” And what has become an “end of summer” ritual for folks at St. Luke Health Services, Rudy’s owner Carol Livesey brought all the fixings to St. Luke for a great lunch, featuring Rudy’s favorites like a fish sandwich and of course – “Texas Hots.”

Rachel Joy Scott was the first person killed during the Columbine High School shooting in April of 1999. Following the tragedy, her father, Darrell Scott, began to speak about the need for a kinder, more compassionate country. He used writings and drawings from his daughter to illustrate his message which he called “Rachel’s Challenge.”

A fundraiser night at Fajita Grill is planned for Sept. 18 from 5 – 9 p.m. to help out local children working to help find a cure to Type 1 Diabetes. The kids invite the community to have a meal at Fajita Grill Tuesday night with 10% of total sales going to their team efforts.

Sarah Argersinger, of West Monroe, is participating in St. Lawrence University’s International Study Program for the fall 2012 semester. Argersinger, a member of the class of 2015 at St. Lawrence, is studying in France.

SUNY Oswego’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will conduct a volunteer training session Sept. 27, for the Osteoporosis Bone Builders program. The training, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will take place at First United Methodist Church, 4372 Church St. in Mexico.

Aretha Lagoe was recognized by the Oswego City School District Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools at Tuesday’s meeting. Lagoe has served the district’s students and staff for two decades and is retiring from service.

Jessica Parker from Central Square has been admitted to the Master’s Program in International Affairs at Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government and Public Service. Parker joins 82 other first year MPIA students at the School, which is ranked in the top 13 percent of public policy programs at public universities in the country.
