Playing for Poverty Teams Up With Save-a-lot

From now through the end of July, Save-a-lot of Fulton will be selling paper soup cans to raise money for the 4th annual Playing for Poverty community concert in the city of Fulton. All proceeds will be donated, along with money and non-perishable food items collected the day of the event, to Food Bank of CNY and area food pantries.

Cayuga CC Receives $25k Grant to Develop Learning Communities to Increase Student Retention and Success

The College will use the money to help cover the costs of training and planning time for faculty and campus leaders to create developmental learning communities. Learning communities create a cohort of students who are enrolled in the same course or courses and often focus on a common reading or the same major theme across a variety of academic disciplines.

Children Head to Sheriff’s Summer Camp

Children between the ages of nine and twelve from throughout Oswego County are shown preparing to board a bus on Sunday, 7/10/11, to begin an adventure at the 35th Annual New York State Sheriffs’ Association Institute’s Summer Camp located at Camp Iroquois in Penn Yan, New York.  Oswego County Undersheriff Eugene F. Sullivan, III (left) was on hand to see the campers off along with Deputy Robert Ramsey, President of the Oswego County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association.  Deputy Ramsey presented each camper with a T-shirt donated by the Deputies’ Association.  While at Camp Iroquois the youngsters will spend a week filled with fun activities, including drug-prevention presentations, boat and bike safety programs, law enforcement equipment and technical demonstrations, and pistol and archery competitions, activities that will afford them a better understanding of the men and women who enforce laws.  Twenty-one children from Oswego County were selected to attend camp this year.  They include:  Amanda and Terry Belden, Jacob Friot, Colten Hardy, Hannah Revoir, and Gregory Skilinski, (Village of Pulaski), Travis Benjamin (Village of Sandy Creek), Casey Christian, Christina Dobson, Dyerin and Joshua Gareau, Andrea and Cerenity Geer, Morgan Leach, Joshua Pool, and Sullivan Worns (Town of Richland),  Trace Clark and Aaron Farmer, (Town of Sandy Creek),  William Henry, Jr., (Town of Orwell), Cody Phillips (Town of Boylston), and Cheyenne White (Town of Hannibal).Children between the ages of nine and twelve from throughout Oswego County are shown preparing to board a bus on Sunday, 7/10/11, to begin an adventure at the 35th Annual New York State Sheriffs’ Association Institute’s Summer Camp located at Camp Iroquois in Penn Yan, New York.

Annual Oswego Industries Golf Open Raises $6,590

Shirley Baker of Hannibal displays the gloves worn as the Disability Challenge for the 6th annual Oswego Industries, Inc. Golf Open.  Baker captained the tournament's winning team, Putt on the Ritz, sponsored by the Ritz Diner of Oswego.Oswego Industries, Inc. raised a net profit of $6,590 at its 6th Annual Oswego Industries, Inc. Golf Open, held June 24 at Battle Island Golf Course in Fulton. Funds raised will benefit rehabilitation programs at Oswego Industries, which has been providing services to individuals with disabilities in Oswego County since 1968.

CNY Arts Center Promotes Performing Arts

Gina Holsopple, Matt Wood and son Rubey entertain audiences during the recent Arts Fest on the River, July 9th in Fulton. The event featured local talent on stage and visual artists on display nearby. Matt Wood featured his drawings and tattoo art along with 15 other artists in a variety of art mediums.At the recent Arts Fest on the River in Fulton, July 9th, CNY Arts Center presented a line-up of local talent that delighted audiences all afternoon. “It was some of the best feedback we received about the day with comments that we had a good mix of musical styles to appeal to all ages and types,’ said Nancy Fox, Coordinator.
