Energy and Sustainability Institute for Elementary Teachers

Fourth-grade teacher Kelly Moxley of Kingsford Elementary School in the Oswego City School District experiments at a new SUNY Oswego institute for elementary school teachers, giving a glimpse of the fascination Moxley's students will experience after they assemble electric motors using little more than a coil of wire, a magnet and a D battery. The college, with assistance from NYSERDA and other government agencies, offers the first Energy and Sustainability Institute for Elementary Teachers -- 18 from Oswego city schools -- Aug. 9 to 13 at Rice Creek Field Station. Rotarians Learn About Square Dancing Club

At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting Rotarian Sharon Foster introduced Art Thomas who told us about Shirts & Skirts, the square dancing group that meets every Friday from 7 - 9 PM at Fulton Muncipal Building   The Club is open to new members in September and upon joining, the  new member gets two free weeks of lessons.  Pictured are Vice President Patrick Waite, left, Foster and Thomas.   The Fulton Sunrise Rotary Club meets every Friday at 7 AM at Fulton's Riverside Inn.

New Daycare Opens in Fulton

Ladybug Daycare, located at 122 W. 5th St. in Fulton, will open at the start of the school year.  Cindy Jerred, child care provider of 20 years, businesswoman, mother and grandmother, is reopening her daycare business with her daughter, Alexis.  Children will learn about music, art, sign language, science, cooking and reading.   Above, Margaret and Mary Jerred spray paint sheets hanging from a clothesline.  Similar activities will be offered at Ladybug Daycare throughout the school year. Freewill Dinner August 22 at Minetto United Methodist Church

The Nurture & Care Committee of the Minetto United Methodist Church will host a freewill dinner on Sunday, August 22, serving from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. The menu will be pulled pork sandwiches, macaroni salad, and dessert. Donations are not expected but will be accepted.

Music Boosters to Run Dunking Booth During Hannibal Field Days; Local Celebrities Will Be Targets

The Hannibal Music Boosters will operate a dunk tank booth at the Hannibal Firemen’s Field Days beginning Thursday.

The organization has lined up several local celebrities and officials to volunteer to be dunked to help raise money for the school music program.

Seniors Targeted in Area Scams

Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I—Pulaski) today warned people that there are several scams taking place in the area, particularly targeting seniors. He said seniors should know what to avoid so they can protect themselves. Loved ones of seniors should also be on the alert to help prevent scammers from victimizing seniors.
