Tour De Loop 30/50 Mile Bike Race Set For August 22

The Oswego YMCA is gearing up for the Tour de Loop Bike Race a 30/50 mile cycle event which takes place in Oswego and Cayuga County on Saturday, August 22, 2009 and will start promptly at 8:30 am. The Tour de Loop is sponsored by Murdock’s, Rudy’s, Ontario Orchards, Ontario Metal Fabricators, and the Onondaga Cycling club. This event is open to racers of any caliber, male or female age 15 and up, the start location is right out at Rudy’s.

Spiritually Speaking: Lost in Space?

I am amazed at the international cooperation and teamwork it has taken to build it.Oh, I know. It is far from the idealism of those Star Trek explorers but read a bit about what is happening there, look at the planet earth from outer space and there is plenty to admire. It is an awesome venture in spite of all the problems and setbacks. It has been a long and complex journey for humanity as our venture into space becomes reality instead of science fiction.

CYO Students Learn the Importance of Roadway Safety

<br />Billie Jo Crandall of the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board, pictured above, visited the CYO Summer Program and spoke with children about the rules of the road for bicyclists and pedestrians and spoke of the importance of wearing a seatbelt in a car and safely crossing the street.  A program of Catholic Charities of Oswego County, the CYO Summer Recreation Program is offered free of charge to children ages 7 to 13 and is held Monday thru Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through August 14th.

Students in the CYO Summer Program at Catholic Charities were treated to a special presentation by Billie Jo Crandall of the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board on the importance of roadway safety. Ms. Crandall discussed the rules of the road for bicyclists and pedestrians and spoke of the importance of wearing a seatbelt in a car and safely crossing the street. The children asked plenty of questions and learned vital lessons on how to be safe while playing in their neighborhood.

Local Salon Supports ‘Playing For Poverty’ Event

<br />Heather Robinson (l), Runaway and Homeless Youth Specialist with OCO and Morgan Berry (r) of Hair We Are Next Door visited with patrons at Fulton’s recent Rock the Block celebration to promote Playing For Poverty, A Food Aid Concert for Oswego County.  Scheduled for September 12th, from 3 to 9 p.m., the event is a full day of fun and music to help raise awareness of hunger and poverty in Oswego County and help garner support for local food pantries.  The event will be held at Bullhead Point in Fulton.  Hair We Are Next Door is currently collecting donations of non-perishable foods in support of the event. A very special event to raise awareness of hunger and poverty in Oswego County and help garner support for Oswego County’s food pantries received some much welcomed support recently as Hair We Are Next Door has announced that they will be collecting non-perishable food donations for the second annual Playing For Poverty, A Food Aid Concert for Oswego County. The salon is hosting a donation box where patrons will be able to drop off non-perishable food donations now through the date of the event. Other local businesses in the area will also be hosting donation boxes for this event.

St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop to Hold Clothing Sale

There will be a “Dollar a Bag” clothing sale at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop on Friday, August 14th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. All persons attending can purchase bags for $1.00 each and then fill them with clothing of their choice from the thrift shop racks. Clothing is available in various sizes for men, women, children and infants.

Fulton Public Library Fundraising Night at Applebee’s

Fulton Public Library will be holding a fundraiser at Applebee’s Restaurant on August 12th. It will be held at the Clay restaurant on Route 31. It will run from 4pm to 9pm. Applebee’s will donate 10% of the proceeds made that night (excluding tax and tip) to the library.
