‘The Wizard of Oz’ To Include Deleted Scenes

The 2019 Harborfest Children’s Musical “The Wizard of Oz” will include several scenes deleted from the original movie version. These include a dance routine with the scarecrow and crows, the poppy field scene with dancing Poppies and snowflakes, the Haunted Forest with actual ghosts and the Jitterbug scene.

I like taking the ferry from Cape Vincent to Wolfe Island. The ride is only 10 minutes; the ferry runs frequently until mid-October and has been family-owned for more than 200 years.

Recently I attended a dinner theater presentation at the Oswego Foundry dealing with Safe Haven. The play was written by Michael Nupuf and Laura Lowrie and directed by Richard Mosher. It portrayed the life and times of a fictional family. I have read Ruth Gruber’s book “Haven.” I think it should be compulsory reading for students in Oswego County and elsewhere.

Ruth Gruber, The Woman Who Helped Create Safe Haven

When folks attend the special presentation of “Safe Haven” June 1 or 2 at the American Foundry, they will get an opportunity to experience a fictional snapshot of the life and times of the families as they lived on the refugee encampment Safe Haven for the 18 months it existed. And most importantly embedded in the play is the real life character named Ruth Gruber, played by Polaann Hemulay.
