SUNY Oswego’s adaptation of the classic musical spoof “Young Frankenstein” brings new faces to the stage and highlights the comedic talent of the student cast, starting with a preview at 7:30 p.m. April 24, in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre. The college music and theatre departments will present the musical comedy at 7:30 p.m. April 25; April 26; and May 3. The show will close with a 2 p.m. matinee May 4.
On a recent visit to Massachusetts, John and I planned to stay in Boston but there was a large convention going on so all the reasonable hotels were booked. We ended up staying at the Sonesta Suites in nearby Burlington, Mass. Several years ago we enjoyed our stay at the Sonesta Hotels in Peru. Sonesta Suites turned out to be a great choice. During its glory days there were more than 10,000 Buddhist temples and monasteries; today only about 2,200 remain. A comic spoof on the legend of Frankenstein comes to life this month as SUNY Oswego’s theatre and music departments present an adaptation based on the 1974 hit film and 2007 Broadway play “Young Frankenstein” in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre. The play will preview at 7:30 p.m. April 24, and run 7:30 p.m. April 25 and 26 and May 3, with the matinee finale at 2 p.m. May 4.
The production will consist of two one-act plays: “Take Five” a comedy by Westley M. Pederson, to be directed by Donald Crowe and “Who Am I This Time?” by Christopher Sergel, based on the short story by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., to be directed by Valeri Roscoe Dedich. Auditions will be held on April 21 and 22 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 309 Buffalo St.
Rudyard Kipling wrote, “The Road to Mandalay where the flying fish play…” Kipling was never in Mandalay and there are no flying fish as it is not on the sea but it is located inland on the Irrawaddy River. It was the last home of the royal family of Myanmar. Air Asia now has a direct flight from Bangkok so we decided to revisit.
Following up the Oswego Players’ 76th season starter, The Dining Room, desert lovers will be in for a real treat with their next production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Jennifer Snow, based on the book by Roald Dahl and dramatized by Richard R. George.
Visiting Macau from Hong Kong is a no-brainer. It takes one hour on the TurboJet Ferry ($20) which departs about every 15 minutes. Macau is one of two Special Administrative Regions of China. The other is Hong Kong. It is part of the philosophy of “One country, two systems.”
