The Palermo man who became an everyday presence at the child endangerment trial of Erin Maxwell has been charged with endangering his own child and a family pet.

State Police report that a person called to say that Steven D. Burdick, 45, of 4102 Route 3, Palermo, had a dog tied up in his front yard that had been hit by a vehicle the night before.

A Phoenix high school football player died Friday evening after suffering an injury during his team’s game at Homer high school.

Ridge Barden, 16 and a junior, died after suffering what the school district describes as a head injury in the third quarter of the Firebirds’ Friday night game at Homer. He was taken by ambulance from the field to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A Fulton couple and a man from Syracuse were arrested Thursday as police ended what they said was an investigation into drug sales in the city.

A long, tense period is over for Fulton’s largest private employer, as workers at Huhtamaki approved a new 3 year contract Thursday.

The contract, which is retroactive to February when the old contract expired, contains modest pay increases and maintains medical and pension benefits, according to Richard Knowles of the United Steelworkers Union.

Fulton Speedway has been making noise on summer Saturday nights for half a century.  Thursday night, Volney town officials decided to leave the town’s noise ordinances just as they are.
