Fulton’s Home Rehab Experiment Makes Its First Sales, Turns A Profit
The city of Fulton’s first efforts at entering the real estate market have turned a profit.
The city this week approved the sale of homes at 470 S. 6th St. and 414 Park Ave. to new owners. (That’s the S. 6th St. home you see above.) The city seized the homes for having unpaid property taxes. Normally, local governments sell the homes at auctions, usually for the amount of taxes owed. But Mayor Ron Woodward had an idea: What if the city rehabbed the homes and sold them at market rates, just like any other homeowner?
Now, there’s an answer.

Fulton’s Believer’s Chapel church lost its struggle Tuesday night to get a second driveway, in the face of polite opposition from the church’s neighbors.
Hannibal To Hold H1N1 Flu Public Meeting
The district intends to share its plan for communicating to the community during the expected outbreak of H1N1 this fall and winter. It will also outline the steps being taken at school to lessen the spread of the virus and give parents some ideas on how to protect their children from the flu.
Fees Go Up Today For Vehicle Registrations, Licenses
The cost of driving went up while you slept.
The fee charged for every vehicle registration and license rose effective today. And soon, you’ll be forced to get a new license plate and pay extra to keep your current license plate number.
Oswego County Plans Aerial Spraying Wednesday, Sept. 2
Weather permitting, the Oswego County Health Department will conduct an aerial spray of the Toad Harbor Swamp on the north shore of Oneida Lake Wednesday evening, Sept. 2. The aerial spray will begin after 6 p.m. and continue until the area has been treated.
Boy Drowns While Swimming In Kasoag Lake
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Department says Joshua A. Spicer, 14, of 39 Beaver Lodge Road, Altmar was swimming in the lake at midafternoon when someone found him unresponsive in the water. Police and rescue workers were called at about 3:40 p.m.
People Remember “Special Angel”, Erin Maxwell, at Vigil Marking A Year Since Her Death
Erin Maxwell is gone, but far from forgotten. Several dozen people gathered Sunday night under the pavilion at Palermo Town Park to remember the girl who died a year ago.
“I wish I could have helped you,” said Colleen Scott, one of the people behind Justice for Erin.
Local Officials Ask Sen. Gillibrand To Help Them Find Money
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand met the officials of Oswego County’s various governments Friday afternoon for a brief give-and-take on economic issues that produced offers to help bring more money to the area.
Their message, whether the issue was stimulus funding, farming or a new nuclear plant, was simple: We need money.
