In the middle of a blizzard, the new Oswego Common Council was sworn in at City Hall. At the council’s organizational meeting Jan. 1 night, five of the seven members sworn in by Oswego County Supreme Court Judge James W. McCarthy were freshmen. Rob Corradino was appointed president of the council. Kevin Hill was named vice president.

The Oswego City Police Department’s K9 Crixus received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Crixus’ vest is sponsored by Staten Island Companion Dog Training Club embroidered with the sentiment “Gifted by SICDTC, Staten Island, NY.”

An international jewelry business is set to open on Oswego’s west side early next year. LeRoi (fine body jewelry) announced Thursday afternoon that it plans to relocate from its current Fulton facility into a much larger site at 212 W. Second St., Oswego. It will bring 40 employees with it, and is likely to at 10 more with another 10 possible by 2020.

Post historian Corey King will lead a unique World War I commemorative First Day Hike around the 75-acre Fort Ontario Military Reservation National Register District at 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Tuesday, Jan. 1. The hike pays tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Nov. 11, 1918, signing of the armistice which brought World War I to a close.
