Oswego Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dean Goewey presented a nearly 30-minute dissertation on the district’s proposed $63.1 million capital project at Monday night’s Common Council meeting. “The school board and I believe that this is a community project,” the superintendent told the council, adding that the district has been doing a lot to promote the capital project.

Oswego, Firefighters Agree On New Deal

The Port City and the Oswego Fire Department began a new chapter on Monday night. At the final Common Council meeting of 2018, Mayor Billy Barlow presented a proposed deal with firefighters to the City Council. It was unanimously approved. The new agreement takes firefighters through 2022 and wraps up the last open city bargaining unit contract to be settled.

Oswego County Government, IDA and CenterState CEO Join Forces on Economic Advancement Plan

Shane Broadwell, Chairman of the Oswego County Legislature, announced today (December 10) an expanded joint venture between the County, the Oswego County Industrial Development Agency and the CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity. Oswego School Board Discusses Free Admission and Swearing

Should admission to scholastic athletic contests be free? Well, that discussion came up at the last Oswego City School District Board of Education meeting. Board President Aimee Callen said, ”We want to build school pride and a positive way to do that is to do away with the gate fee.” Under “Items from the Board” Callen discussed behavior and discipline problems in the district and asked if the administration could at least start to address this in relation to language.

Barlow Announces $75,000 Grant To YMCA, Boxing Club

Before a sell-out crowd in the lower level of the Oswego YMCA (home to the Oswego Boxing Club), Mayor Billy Barlow announced that the Oswego YMCA’s Boxing Club and the Oswego YMCA will receive $75,000 in grant funds from the city. The funds will be used to expand, renovate and assist with the YMCA’s expansion project, the mayor said Thursday evening.

Laker fans will be in a frenzy this weekend as it’s time for the annual emotional Whiteout Weekend with Potsdam and archrival Plattsburgh coming into the Marano Campus Center for Friday and Saturday 7 p.m. SUNYAC games. The SUNYAC standings are in early season chaos and Oswego Coach Ed Gosek noted both games will be highly competitive and will play a critical role in the final standings.
