Military Monument Restoration Initiative Under Way In Oswego

In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I this November, Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow has announced an initiative to clean and restore the many war memorial monuments throughout the city in several parks. The initiative has already started with the Oak Hill Park World War I monument and the World War I memorial bench in Franklin Square receiving attention last week.

Additional EEE Found in Oswego County

The Oswego County Health Department announced today (August 14) that four additional samples of mosquitoes, collected Aug. 6 and Aug. 8 from the Toad Harbor Swamp, have tested positive for the Eastern equine encephalitis virus. The county is working with the state to schedule an aerial spraying of the Toad Harbor Swamp area. A horse in West Monroe died after exhibiting neurological symptoms similar to encephalitis.

Fayetteville Man Arrested For DWAI-Drugs Following Accident Investigation In Central Square

State Police arrested Richard D. Kim, 41, from 8003 Summerview Drive, Fayetteville, for Vehicular Assault 2nd degree, a class “E” felony; DWAI – Drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Mayor Barlow Unveils Proposed 2019 Oswego City Budget

At Monday night’s Common Council meeting, Mayor Billy Barlow unveiled his tentative operating budget for the coming year. It contains a 2.1% reduction in city property taxes for 2019. This is the first tax reduction for city residents in 20 years, Barlow said Monday night during his annual budget message to the council.

Fort Ontario State Historic Site on East Fourth Street in Oswego hosts a Revolutionary War encampment on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25 and 26. The event features living history demonstrations and three battle re-enactments. OCJ Inmate’s Death Under Investigation

At about 12:20 a.m. today (August 10), members of the Oswego County Correctional Facility responded to a medical emergency involving an inmate in the facility. The housing unit officer detected a change in the breathing pattern of the sleeping inmate and notified a supervisor.
Despite the life-saving measures taken, the inmate was pronounced dead.
