This year, the Port City has entered into an agreement with Onondaga County for purchasing services. According to Mayor Billy Barlow, the pact requires Oswego to make two updates to its purchasing policy. One relates to water meters. The other one deals with maintenance and safety.
On Monday (May 28), at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Oswego City Police Department received information that there was a suspicious picture on social media. The picture was of a juvenile holding a rifle that appeared to be real with a threat made towards an unspecified school. The threat was determined to not be credible. However, Oswego Police continued the investigation and ultimately charged one 13-year-old boy with the offense, if committed by an adult, of Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree.
Their ranks are thinning . . . but still they march on. On Monday, members of the area veterans’ and service groups spent the early morning visiting various parks and cemeteries in Oswego and surrounding communities paying tribute to our nation’s veterans. Once again, the Port City paused to honor and thank the men and women who fought and died for our freedoms.
“Madeline” fans of all ages can celebrate Oswego’s connection with children’s author Ludwig Bemelmans in a full day of activities on June 2. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fort Ontario State Historic Site and the nearby Oswego Civic Arts Center on East Fourth Street in Oswego.
The Town of Oswego Planning Board is continuing its work of updating the town’s comprehensive plan. The group meets the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Oswego Town Hall, 2320 county Route 7, Oswego.
Five New York state schools, including Kingsford Park School of Oswego, were recipients of a “Green Schools Grant” from the New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling, the professional recyclers’ association for New York State.
At about 11:47 a.m. today (May 25) members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Hannibal Fire Department, Oswego Town Fire Department and Menter Ambulance responded to State Route 104 in the town of Hannibal, south of Blythe Road, for a two-car collision.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to locate 18-year-old Alyson Noyes. Alyson was last seen on the evening of May 24 at a residence in the town of Mexico, Oswego County, New York.
The Zonta Club of Oswego will honor Linda Eagan as its 2018 Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement at its annual recognition ceremony on June 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center. The award is presented each year to a woman who has dedicated herself to her community and who serves as a role model for young women.
More than 20 local residents gathered in Franklin Square (West) Park today (May 24) to urge Congressman John Katko to vote against President Trump’s and Congressional Republicans’ plan to make draconian cuts to the Children’s Health Insurance Program in order to pay for the $1.5 trillion tax break for the wealthy, which was passed in December.
