Oswego Council Honors Firefighter, Teacher

Firefighter Sean O’Gorman, who was recently cited by New York Senator Patty Ritchie for saving the lives of two distressed teen-age swimmers, received the first “Mayor’s Award” from Mayor Billy Barlow. Also recognized was Nicholas J. Little, a teacher at Fitzhugh Park Elementary School in Oswego for receiving the 2018 Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award from New York State. Mayor Barlow Announces 2018 4th of July Independence Day Celebration

Mayor Billy Barlow announced today (May 14) the schedule and list of activities for the 2018 4th of July Independence Day Celebration in Oswego. He also announced the opening of parade participation applications and encouraged local organizations to participate in the parade as the theme this year will be “Hometown Pride.” The Independence Day Parade will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, along State Route 104 from Oswego High School to Fort Ontario.

Oswego County homeowners and small business owners who have failing or septic systems that do not meet today’s standards and are in environmentally-sensitive areas may be eligible for assistance through the New York State Septic System Replacement Program. County ADA Arrested on DWI Charges After Crash in Sandy Creek

UPDATE: ADA Christopher resigned his position at the Oswego County DA’s Office.
On Thursday (May 10), at approximately 5:58 p.m., State Police in Pulaski responded to Elms Road in the town of Sandy Creek for a property damage auto accident. As a result of the investigation, Thomas Christopher, 58,, from Chipman Lane in Sandy Creek, was arrested for DWI (BAC .17%) and Leaving the Scene of a property damage accident.

Guardian Angel Oswego Firefighter Honored By New York State

At the Oswego City Fire Department’s eastside station today (May 10), State Senator Patty Ritchie presented Oswego City Firefighter Sean O’Gorman, whom she described as a ‘Gurdian Angel,’ with the Senate Liberty Award for his efforts to rescue two teenage girls from a rip current in the Atlantic Ocean. The New York State Senate Liberty Award is one of the highest civilian honors that a New Yorker can receive.

Oswego County Health Department Warns Residents of Potentially Rabid Fox

The Oswego County Health Department today (May 10) is warning residents that three adults were attacked by a gray fox in the vicinity of Snyder Road and County Route 15 in the town of Sandy Creek. One attack occurred Tuesday, May 8, and the others occurred Wednesday evening, May 9. Anyone in the area who sees a gray fox behaving aggressively is advised to call the New York State DEC regional dispatch office at 1-877-457-5680.
