Oswego attorney, farmer and life-long Central New Yorker Scott DelConte today (April 12) announced his candidacy for the New York State Supreme Court, bringing his decades of legal experience and fiercely independent principals to serve the people of the Fifth Judicial District. Throughout his career, DelConte, 44, has represented a client base ranging from local businesses and families to Fortune 500 companies.
SUNY Oswego Public Relations major and Fort Ontario intern Alexis Bowering wanted to do something to the men and women of the 444th Engineer Company, 479th Engineer Brigade. With assistance from Friends of Fort Ontario, the daughter of the 444th’s former First Sergeant, organized the program featuring personal stories from officers and soldiers of the company. The Francis Marion Brown Theatre, located on the grounds of Fort Ontario State Historic Site, hosted the event.
At the port’s annual meeting, Amy Tresidder was elected as chair of the board. In addition, Ken Stevens was elected vice chair and Gerald Brown was elected secretary/treasurer. The board also includes Terry Hammill, John Smith and Thomas Schneider, plus three vacancies. One of the board’s priorities will be to fill the vacant positions.
On Thursday, April 5, at approximately 5:32 a.m., investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department’s Emergency Services Unit and the Fulton City Police Department, executed a narcotics related search warrant at 516 Seward St. in the city of Fulton. As a result of the search warrant execution, approximately 15.8 grams of cocaine, 496 prescription pills, dilutants and digital scales were seized, police said.
Councilors approved a budget amendment in order to purchase new dockage at the International Marina. They also approved several requests to use public space.
On Tuesday, April 10,and Wednesday, April 11, the two eastbound lanes in front of the new CountryMax Store on State Route 104 between Shampine Drive and Eugene Saloga Drive in the city of Oswego will be reduced to one lane through the center turn lane due to necessary construction work.
This year’s St. Baldrick’s Day in Oswego head-shaving fundraiser for childhood cancer research funds will have a more family-friendly feel to it. Planning committee member Terra Pritchard said, “We want families to come and have a good time, whether they know anyone shaving or not.” To that end, there will be face-painting, cotton candy and popcorn, live music and more.
“This is the 40th railcar we received since January,” William Scriber, acting executive director of the Port of Oswego Authority, told Oswego County Today. “We basically had no railcars the two previous years. We are aggressively going at increasing our aluminum at the port.”
The Oswego County Department of Social Services reported 105 cases of people whose applications for public assistance were either denied or withdrawn in 2017. This resulted in $1.1 million in savings of avoided benefits costs for county taxpayers. These cases involved attempts by people to collect benefits that they weren’t eligible for.
Oswego Harborfest today (April 5) announced a new multi-year agreement with its new Grucci Fireworks sponsors – Exelon Generation and Pathfinder Bank. Entertainment for the festival also announced. Headliners include Don Felder (formerly of the Eagles), Almost Queen, Changes in Latitude and more. This year, Harborfest is scheduled for July 26 through 29. “Breitbeck Park will be rocking opening night with all of Queen’s hits. The sing-along of Bohemian Rhapsody will be a moment you don’t want to miss,” the president of the festival’s board said.
