Wilmott Announces Candidacy In Oswego’s Fourth Ward

Robert Wilmott (Republican) of 173 E. Fifth St. has announced his candidacy for councilor of Oswego’s Fourth Ward. After graduating from Oswego High School in 1986, Wilmott began his career in the field of construction, working for a local general contractor. “Recent code enforcement efforts in the city of Oswego hit close to home for me, as I look back on my first decade of work in our community and the positive impact it had,” he said.

Motor Vehicle Accident Closes Road

UPDATE:
State Route 481 has been reopened as of 3 a.m. Friday June 9.

At about 5:16 p.m. today (June 8), emergency crews responded to a one-car rollover motor vehicle accident on State Route 481 in front of the Pontiac Nursing Home. 481 between Churchill Road and Syracuse Ave is expected to remain closed until early Friday morning as crews attempt to repair the damaged lines.

SUNY Oswego Welcomes One Of Its Largest Reunion Groups; events run through June 11

The reunion brings alumni from around the world — representing graduating classes as far back as 1947 — to reconnect with their alma mater for a weekend of activities and events, according to Laura Pavlus Kelly, the college’s director of alumni and parent relations. It will be the second largest number of attendees in reunion history, said Kelly, who also is a 2009 alumna.

Butcher, Baker and Candlestick maker; only the baker was represented among the a plethora of other local careers visiting Leighton Elementary School on Wednesday afternoon to share their expertise with students. The elementary students could meet people representing a wide variety of professions, including dentist, firefighter, police officer, welder, restaurateur and youth director.

State Police investigating a one-car rollover crash in Mattydale

On Tuesday, a 2003 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on Lemoyne Ave. in the town of Salina when it attempted to change lanes. The Mustang exited the west side of the of the roadway striking a utility pole and rolling over a 3-foot cement wall, coming to rest upside down in the parking lot of Sweeneys Auto Repair. The driver was hospitalized.

Tesoriero Announces Bid for 6th Ward Councilor

A lifelong Sixth Ward city of Oswego resident, Ron Tesoriero, has announced his candidacy for the Sixth Ward seat on the Oswego Common Council. Tesoriero is a 38-year member of the Local 73 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and is currently the plumbing inspector for the city of Oswego, a job he will abdicate should he win the election later this year.

Each year Santa Claus visits the Oswego Children’s Tree Lighting Ceremony. The tree and Civic Plaza are gaily decorated. And children turn out by the dozens for an early chance to share their wish lists with the Joly Old Elf. At Monday night’s Administrative Services Committee meeting, Jennifer Losurdo of the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau discussed the estimated cost for this year’s event – which includes a couple of live reindeer.
