Reindeer To Visit Oswego’s Holiday Ceremony

Each year Santa Claus visits the Oswego Children’s Tree Lighting Ceremony. The tree and Civic Plaza are gaily decorated. And children turn out by the dozens for an early chance to share their wish lists with the Joly Old Elf. At Monday night’s Administrative Services Committee meeting, Jennifer Losurdo of the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau discussed the estimated cost for this year’s event – which includes a couple of live reindeer.

Refueling Outages Delivered Big Win For Clean, Reliable Energy While Fueling Economy For Long-Term Benefit of NYS

The three recently completed refueling and maintenance outages at Exelon Generation’s upstate New York nuclear energy facilities, R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, James A FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant and Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, are already demonstrating the value of the Clean Energy Standard and its zero-emissions credits first-hand. In total, the three refueling outages resulted in a combined investment of $310 million.

ORA Awards $200,000 to Oswego Neighborhoods

The Oswego Renaissance Association held its fourth annual “Awards Reception” June 2 and formally awarded 15 Oswego city neighborhoods, representing more than 150 homes, the “Renaissance Block Challenge Grant” totaling more than $160,000. Additionally the ORA awarded 16 “Neighborhood Pride Grants” to 16 different resident groups, totaling more than $30,000. Another 20 homes that are being re-painted in historic colors were awarded “Paint Oswego Grants” totaling $20,000.

Oswego County Flooding Update – Health Department Offers Free Tetanus Shots to Flood Victims

Several Oswego County and local agencies are continuing to monitor flooding conditions and offer assistance to residents along the Lake Ontario shoreline. The Oswego County Health Department is offering Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccine at no cost to Oswego County residents who have been affected by the high water levels.

Raised in the Oswego community, Harter is the father of two sons who attend Oswego city schools. Local Law Enforcement Carries ‘Flame of Hope’ For Special Olympics

Members of local law enforcement carried the “Flame of Hope” 12 miles from the Oswego Police Department to the Fulton Police Department on Wednesday in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New York. Oswego Police Department, Fulton Police Department, Oswego County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police participated. They were joined by members of Team Red, White and Blue.

Matthew Wood, the newly-hired coordinator of recreation and youth development for the Oswego County Parks and Recreation Department, was born and grew up in Oswego County. “I am a Fulton native and I still think it can be and is the ‘City with a Future.’ I still dream of waking to the smell of chocolate and knowing that means it’s going to rain,” he said. “I believe that there are many areas in the county that are underutilized. We have such a wealth of natural areas and resources to explore and many people don’t even know they exist.”

Gov. Cuomo Announces $7M Available For Homeowners Impacted By Flooding On Lake Ontario, St. Lawrence River

Governor Cuomo announced $7 million in state funding to assist homeowners that have been impacted by flooding along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. The new investment program will provide up to $40,000 for homeowners to support interior and exterior repairs to structural damage caused by flooding, as well as the repair or replacement of permanent fixtures. This funding is in addition to the $10 million in state funding announced for eligible municipalities, and the up to $5 million in grants announced for small businesses with physical damage or loss as a result of flooding.
