During Monday night’s Common Council meeting, Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow recapped the first year of his administration, outlining several accomplishments and examples of success over the last 12 months. The mayor spoke specifically to winning the $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative from Governor Andrew Cuomo, accounting for a large portion of the almost $16 million the city secured in grant funding in 2016 alone.

Search for New CEO Announced by Oswego Health Board of Directors

The Oswego Health Board of Directors announced today (Dec. 13) that it will begin a search process to replace president and CEO Chuck Gijanto. The board offered to extend Gijanto’s agreement, but he is unable to accept due to personal reasons. Gijanto was hired by Oswego Health as an interim president and CEO in September 2015.

The commemorative edition represents the culmination of the county’s bicentennial celebration this year. It will arrive in Oswego during this week (December 12) and be distributed to various municipal historians, historical societies, and museums for sale.

City Rescinds Town Sewer Deal

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council rescinded Resolution No. 379 of Oct. 11, 2016. The action, in the opinion of City Attorney Kevin Caraccioli, could leave the city open to a lawsuit. This fall, councilors had approved entering into a contract with Oswego Town regarding the Ontario Heights Water District for sewer connections to the city sewer system; in connection with a planned student housing site in the town. Some councilors say they want more control over who can hook into the city’s sewer system.

Rochester Man Charged With Possession of Crack Cocaine With Intent To Sell

On Thursday, December 8, at approximately 8:54 p.m., investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force stopped a 2016 Blue Hyundai Sonata that was traveling eastbound on East Cayuga Street in the city of Oswego. The traffic stop was in conjunction with an ongoing drug investigation being managed by the DTF.

Begin the New Year with a First Day Hike at Old Fort Ontario

On New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, at 10 a.m., Fort Ontario Superintendent Paul Lear will conduct a free 3-kilometer First Day Hike around the 262-year-old Fort Ontario Military Reservation National Register District. In observance of the centennial of the entry of the United States into World War I, the theme of the moderately-paced hike will be the fort’s service as a hospital for wounded and sick soldiers from 1917 to 1919.
