Fire Damages West Utica Street Apartments

Oswego Fire Department personnel were dispatched to 166 West Utica Street for a reported structure fire at 2:34 am. today (July 28). Firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:38 a.m. and reported heavy smoke showing from the two-story multiple occupancy. Residents of the two apartments reported that they were in bed at the time of the fire, and that they smelled smoke and were able to exit the structure.

Traffic Stop Ends In Drug Charges For Oswego Trio

The driver, Morgan O’Neil, 20, from Oswego, was found to be operating the vehicle without insurance, police said. She was further found to allegedly be in possession of marijuana and heroin. Both passengers, Zachery Palmitese, and Marc Walpole, from Oswego, were also in possession of heroin, according to the report.

Local Teens Resolve Youthful Offender Cases through City-County Youth Court

The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau sponsored a training class recently for new members to Youth Court. More than a dozen middle school and high school students completed the week-long training classes sponsored by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau in the Council Chamber at City Hall. Youth Court is a Family Court diversion program aimed at reducing juvenile delinquency in the city and county of Oswego.

Upstate Energy Jobs’ Petition In Support of Upstate Nuclear Power Plants Surges To More Than 3,500 Signatures

Today, a petition in support of the inclusion of nuclear in Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Clean Energy Standard spearheaded by the Upstate Energy Jobs coalition, a group representing hundreds of business, education and labor leaders, surpassed the 3,500 signature mark which underscores the tremendous support that exists for keeping these plants open. Flanked by scores of nuclear energy supporters, Oswego Mayor William Barlow welcomed a large crowd to the Lake Ontario Conference Center for a press conference emphasizing the need for the immediate passage of the CES.
