There is no state law on the books that allow a county-wide fire district, committee chair Legislator Frank Castiglia said. “Our mission is to explore the pros and cons of creating a county-wide fire district in Oswego County,” Castiglia told Oswego County Today. “If the results are not in favor of creating a county-wide fire district at such time our mission will end.”
The board approved a one-year deal with CSEA that includes a pay freeze. That makes three out of the district’s four unions to approve such a deal. Talks are under way with the teachers’ union. The board also approved a contract extension for the 2017-18 school year regarding Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey.
Under the measure (S.6756-A), the city of Fulton would transfer roughly 8 acres of waterfront parkland to the town of Granby, a move that would allow the town to pursue changes that would help residents to more easily access the Oswego River.
Mayor Billy Barlow presented his proposal to implement free public Wi-Fi throughout downtown Oswego to the Administrative Services Committee. The response from the councilors and others was positive.

Operation Oswego County held its 64th annual meeting at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center on Thursday. The Oswego County Health Department reported today (June 3) that a bat found in a town of Mexico home has tested positive for rabies. As a result, the health department is investigating family members to determine if there have been any exposures to the bat. Also, three house cats must be placed in six-month quarantine as a result of their exposures.
Mayor Barlow announced today (June 2) his proposal to implement free public Wi-Fi throughout downtown Oswego, highlighting the need of internet access in order to modernize downtown and make it more attractive to residents, visitors and the SUNY community.
