The Institute for International Education chose Oswego’s “I, Too, Am Study Abroad” campaign for honorable mention in its Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education program. The honor was one of only three awarded in the study-abroad category.
The New York State Police in Fulton are investigating a burglary to a residence on Lakeview Road in the town of Scriba. The suspect was captured on surveillance and the State Police are attempting to identify him.
Following more than an hour’s worth of discussion Monday night by members of the public as well as city officials, councilors voted unanimously to table a resolution to amend the city charter regarding winter parking restrictions. Therefore, the mayor’s executive order, instituting a winter parking ban (no parking on city streets from 1 to 6 a.m.) remains in place.

Dozens of local volunteers have put in hundreds of man hours to ensure Oswego’s lighthouse stands tall atop Lake Ontario’s water for years to come. Members of the Oswego Common Council recently heard a report of the group’s labors in 2015.
Emergency crews in Oswego were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at 10:23 this morning near the intersection of West Bridge and Sixth streets. According to fire officials on the scene, the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the road, crashed into a house and rolled onto its side. The male patient was packaged and transported to a Syracuse area hospital with lower extremity injuries.
The County of Oswego was informed today (Jan. 21) that the Board of Directors for New York State’s Empire State Development Corporation has approved the county’s application to establish a land bank as part of its efforts to combat the decline of housing stock and housing values throughout their various communities.
The council’s committees gave a favorable recommendation to several requests to use public space, as well as a tent, vendor carts, and propane inspection and permit fee for anyone operating in public space. The resolutions were forwarded to the full council for action next week.
On January 16, State Police in Hastings, Fulton and Pulaski responded to a robbery at Speedy’s Gas Station located at 2634 State Route 49 in the town of West Monroe. On January 17, investigators arrested 30-year-old Cody J. Wakeman from West Monroe, for Robbery 2nd degree, a class “C” felony.
