Thursday (November 19), marks the 39th anniversary of the reported disappearance of Oswego resident Dean Heagerty.
Dean was 19 years old at the time he was reported missing.
He was 6’1” tall with blue eyes and shoulder length blond hair. He was believed to be hitchhiking shortly before being reported missing to authorities.
Assemblyman Will Barclay today (Nov. 18) said he is disappointed and discouraged that Entergy has filed for closure with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Pennellville Volunteer Fireman’s Association (VFA) Fire Chief Duane Royal was charged with grand larceny Sunday for allegedly stealing gas from the fire association for his private use, according to an audit and investigation by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
The Oswego City School District Board of Education signed a contract Tuesday night with Dr. Dean Goewey – approving him as the new superintendent of the Oswego City School District. “I am just fortunate to have had a career, largely in Oswego, full of dream jobs. I appreciate it,” he said.
The Show Us CNY15 Exhibition, featuring 40 winning photographs from across the Central New York region, will be displayed in the corridors of Canal Commons, 191 to 203 W. First St., Oswego, Nov. 20, through Jan. 5.
At its meeting Monday night, the Administrative Services Committee recommended earmarking funds now to complete a granted project begun years ago. The project was started back in 2006, Justin Rudgick, community development director, told the committee. The facility will help attract more visitors to the Port City and generate increased revenue, councilors said.
On Nov. 10, members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office investigated a fatal motor vehicle accident on State Route 3, at the intersection of County Route 7, in the town of Hannibal. The victim in this accident has been positively identified as 66-year-old John W. Fredette, of Fulton.
The key to the Port City’s future could very well lie in its past. A public rally Thursday night to support a process leading to national landmark status for two key Oswego heritage sites drew hundreds to the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center. “The phrase ‘you are history’ has somewhat of a negative connotation to it,” said Jeff Grimshaw, chairman of the Fort Ontario National Landmark Committee. “However, for us it is a positive. We are history.”
Fred Sarkis visited Volney Elementary School recently. The 89-year-old businessman, World War II veteran and author shared his life story with the students. He hopes to convince the Department of Education embrace his story, to promote his non-profit program on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and have the chance to dance with her.
