The SUNY Oswego Department of Economics is sponsoring a talk by economist Laurence J. Malone of Hartwick College, titled “A New Revenue Source for Small Cities in Upstate New York,” to be held at City Hall in the Council Chambers on December 8, at 5:30 p.m.
The Oswego County Community Health and Poverty Reduction Task Force will present its consultant’s recommendations and a draft plan of action to reduce poverty in Oswego County on Dec. 8, at CiTi in Mexico.
The theme of the open house, which will be held in the newly restored and furnished Enlisted Men’s Barracks within the old stone fort, will be “A Soldier’s Christmas at Fort Ontario.”
“SUNY Oswego stands ready to assist our community,” Stanley said. “The direct loss of jobs if the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant closes would be one blow, but as it rippled through our economy, many other jobs would be threatened as the salaries and taxes associated with the mothballed plant and its employees disappeared.”
On Nov. 28 at 2:12 a.m., Joshua O. Kranz, 27, of 386 Bull Run Road, Altmar, was arrested following a multi-county pursuit. The chase began after an incident on US Route 11 in the town of Richland when the vehicle Kranz was operating nearly struck a Pulaski Village Police Officer. It ended on State Route 69 in the town of Camden, Oneida County.
The Port City officially lit up for the holidays on Saturday. Hundreds of people throughout the day enjoyed Light Up, Oswego! The community wide all-day event, welcomed the holiday season in Oswego at myriad locations. Santa greeted hundreds of youngsters at the Lake Ontario Conference Center and hundreds more in City Hall during the afternoon, prior to the tree lighting, this year.
UPDATE: The probable cause of the garage fire on November 28 at 128 Erie St. in the city of Oswego appears to be combustibles stored too close to a wood stove, according to Chief McCrobie.
At 4:57 a.m. today (November 28), the Oswego Fire Department responded to a reported garage fire at 128 Erie St. First arriving units minutes later reported a detached garage at that address fully involved with heavy smoke and fire. No injuries were reported.
The town board for the town of Scriba established a public hearing for comments on a proposed local law that will abolish the position of elected town highway superintendent, and replace it with an appointed position. A public hearing is set for December 2, at 5 p.m. at the Scriba Municipal Building located at 42 Creamery Road.
The community is invited to ring in the season with the annual Light Up, Oswego Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting in cooperation with the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau on Saturday. Santa will arrive at City Hall at 3:30 p.m. Each child will receive a gift bag from Santa.
The Oswego Renaissance Association, a neighborhood revitalization organization in the city of Oswego, announced the completion of this year’s revitalization projects. According to residents, the results are really starting to show. “Several houses on the street have been repainted, even more have new landscaping,” said East Seventh Street homeowner Mark Greutman.
