More EEE, West Nile Virus Found in Oswego County

A sample of mosquitoes recently collected in the north-central area of the town of Palermo has tested positive for the Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus, the Oswego County Health Department reported today. EEE was also found in three additional samples of mosquitoes collected from Toad Harbor Swamp. The West Nile virus was found near the county health department’s mosquito monitoring field station in West Monroe, marking the first confirmed presence of West Nile virus this summer in Oswego County.

Oswego County Drug Task Force Announces Heroin Arrests

On Wednesday, August 12, at approximately 4:29 p.m., investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force, pursuant to a drug investigation, stopped a 2012 Ford Focus in the driveway of 184 W. Utica St. Also on Wednesday, at approximately 6:15 p.m., investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the Oswego City Police Department’s Special Response Team, executed a narcotics related search warrant at 4 ½ Governor St. Two arrests resulted.

OFD Rescue Crews Respond To Breakwall – Again

Apparently the lure of the breakwall on a warm summer’s day is just too much to resist. It’s a hat trick. For the third time in about a week, the Oswego Fire Department was dispatched and Marine One headed out to the Oswego breakwall for a report of several people in distress. Shortly after 5 p.m. today (Aug. 12), a concerned citizen called 911 stating that eight or nine people were on the breakwall. Rescue crews were dispatched at 5:22 p.m. Once again, fire officials said, luckily, there were no injuries.

Three Budget Workshops Scheduled

At Monday night’s Common Council meeting Mayor Tom Gillen announced three budget workshops would be held this week regarding the city’s proposed spending plan for 2016. Workshops will be held Wednesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday at 9 a.m. They will be held in the council chambers and are open to the public.
