The two men who were charged in connection with a SUNY Oswego student’s drug overdose death last year were both sentenced to prison. One got the drugs from the other and then sold it to the student, according to the DA
On Tuesday (Aug. 18) at 3:29 p.m., Andrew Lewis Gaurin, 26, of 1580 SR 69, Lot 10, West Monroe, was arrested for two counts of first-degree criminal sex act, a class B felony; first-degree rape, a class B felony; three counts of predatory assault against a child, a class A felony and endangering the welfare of a child.
The hot and humid weather took a turn in the afternoon Tuesday, giving people the cool down they were looking for. The rain started to pour and it had no intention of slowing up for quite some time. Heavy rain and damaging winds swept through the area early Tuesday evening. “We received 0.45-inch of rain from 5 to 5:15 p.m.,” said Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. “Then from about 6:30 to 7 p.m. we got another 0.10-inch.”
At Monday night’s Administrative Services Committee, councilors approved a request to move funds from the General Fund into the Community Development Office. State Police were called to the Wal-Mart parking lot, East Avenue in Central Square for a reported children left inside a vehicle. When troopers and EMS personnel arrived, they located a silver van with a 4-year-old girl sleeping and a 9-year-old boy inside sweating heavily, according to troopers.
The Oswego County ATV Club recently hosted more than 300 military veterans and their guests for its inaugural “Ride for Veterans.” The event honored wounded domestic and foreign war veterans for their service to our country. The group left the Tailwater Lodge in Altmar and enjoyed a scenic 14-mile ride along Barclay Trail to Kasoag Lake before they returned to the group’s clubhouse in Altmar for a luncheon.
Aerial spraying of portions of the towns of Hastings, West Monroe and Constantia was completed between 6:30 and 8:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16. Oswego County contracted with Duflo Spray-Chemical Inc. from Lowville to conduct the aerial spraying of about 10,000 acres of the Toad Harbor / Big Bay Swamp near the north shore of Oneida Lake.
On Sunday (Aug. 16), members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident in the town of Palermo. Killed in the accident was 32-year-old Gary K. Sun, with a most recent address of 29 Vincent St., Carthage, NY.
The USTA Tennis Program teaches basic tennis skills and gives youth a chance to get outside and exercise, said the program’s coordinator. A carnival was held to give them a chance to show off what they’ve learned – and win some prizes in the process.
