The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and Oswego County Coroner’s Office are investigating a fatal officer-involved-shooting that occurred on Friday, after Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Constantia for a check-the-welfare call. The deceased is a 58-year-old male resident of Constantia who was the subject of the check-the-welfare call.
The United States was caught up in a croquet-fueled frenzy in the 19th century, especially during Fort Ontario’s interpretive period of the late 1860s and the sport quickly became the hottest craze in America and Great Britain. Although played casually today, croquet was an intense cutthroat sport that brought out the fiercest competitive nature of anyone who played.
The County of Oswego Council on Alcoholism and Addictions Inc. has received funding from the New York Council on Problem Gambling to carry-out the YOU(th) Decide project in Oswego County. COCOAA has been a part of this project for two years. 2015 marks the fourth year that the NY Council on Problem Gambling has given out mini-grants to local providers in an effort to prevent underage and problem gambling.
Zach Bush, an Oswego High School senior, advanced to the 2015 SkillsUSA National Competition that will be held in Louisville, Kentucky this upcoming June.
The arrests stem from an incident that occurred in December 2014 in the town of Constantia. They allegedly held a gun to the victim’s head while traveling in a vehicle and stole cash.
“The goal of Oswego Harborfest is to draw attention to our community and its beautiful harbor, while at the same time providing something special for the residents of our area,” said Oswego Harborfest Executive Director Doug Buske. The 28th annual festival is rapidly approaching, but the task of providing a quality admission-free event is a challenge.
At about 7:44 p.m. Tuesday (May 5), Daniel J. Fleischman, 42, of 24 Birch Lane, Bldg. 2, Apt. B, Oswego, was arrested for first-degree rape, a class B felony, following an incident in the town of Scriba. He allegedly ripped off the victim’s pants and forced the victim to engage in intercourse.
More than 1,700 SUNY Oswego students are eligible to take part in the three commencement ceremonies on May 16, with many already set on their next stage of life. Central New York residents will start recognizing meteorology major Molly Mattot as the weekend morning meteorologist for WSTM-3/WTVH-5 and on the CW-6’s 10 p.m. newscast Mondays through Wednesdays.
The three candidates for the two seats on the Oswego City School District Board of Education answered questions from the public Tuesday night. Tom DeCastro and Lynda Sereno are seeking to retain their seats. Former board member Fran Hoefer is looking to unseat one of them.
A SUNY Oswego student brought home top prize in the student competition at the Oswego International War of 1812 Symposium for the second consecutive year. Senior Shannon Cilento won the contest with her paper and presentation, “From Rebels to Patriots: Daniel D. Tompkins and the Involvement of Oswego in the War of 1812.”
