Speaker: More Needs To Be Done To Stop Drug Abuse

We are on the verge of losing the war on drugs unless all agencies pull together, a speaker at the recent county legislature meeting cautioned. The problem went much further, deeper, darker and twisted than he thought possible, Paul R. Stoner II told the legislators. “There were so many questions and no answers; so many unasked questions and horrific answers found,” he said. Several area groups are stepping up the fight against drugs.

County Announces Closure of Long-Term Home Health Care Program

The Oswego County Health Department has announced the Oswego County Long Term Home Health Care Program is officially closed as of Feb. 13, 2015. “Although the County Long Term Home Health Care Program is closing, the health department will continue providing Hospice and Home Health Care Agency services to county residents. We continue to be the provider of choice for quality home care services in the county,” said Jiancheng Huang, Oswego County Director of Public Health.

Woman Seeks Help Finding Husband’s Long-Lost Sister

On Feb. 9 or 10, (they are unsure of the exact date), Diane Bouck Allen gave birth to a little girl she named Patricia Phylis. The baby was separated from her immediately and she never knew what became of her. Now, her son and daughter-in-law are hoping OCT readers can help them connect. “My husband’s mother died in 2004 quite suddenly and many questions were left unanswered,” Kim Allen said. “We were told that she was born in Oswego Hospital.”

Individuals from education, business and the community in Oswego County recently gathered at the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation’s Mexico campus to discuss ways to promote positive character development for students. Ralph Singh, CEO and chair of the Wisdom Thinkers Network and coordinator of the Inspire 14! Initiative, brought dozens of community leaders together to brainstorm ideas on how students can build and develop good character traits, while also developing the soft skills needed to succeed in the workplace.

Random Acts of Kindness Warm Oswego County

Oswego County residents welcomed a blizzard of kindness this month. The Office of Business and Community Relations at SUNY Oswego would like to thank the community for participating in this year’s National Random Acts of Kindness Week. Students from Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, Fulton, Mexico, Phoenix and other school districts showed their spirit by performing small random acts of kindness for fellow students and their teachers.
