Random Acts of Kindness Warm Oswego County

Oswego County residents welcomed a blizzard of kindness this month. The Office of Business and Community Relations at SUNY Oswego would like to thank the community for participating in this year’s National Random Acts of Kindness Week. Students from Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, Fulton, Mexico, Phoenix and other school districts showed their spirit by performing small random acts of kindness for fellow students and their teachers.

The Oswego Lighthouse restoration project is well under way and you can show your support of this beloved icon on April 25, at the American Foundry. “Love Our Lighthouse Day” will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature a lighthouse presentation, live and silent auctions, and bargain tables. Katko Sets ‘Aggressive, but Necessary’ Agenda Focused on Serving Central New York

Drug Task Force Announces Heroin Arrest

On February 10 at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Maple Avenue, just west of County Route 6 in the town of Volney, the Oswego County Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the Fulton City Police Department, executed a search warrant on a pickup truck being operated by Johnathan A. Baldwin. Baldwin, 30, of 52 E. Fourth St., Upper Apartment, Oswego, was the target of a Drug Task Force investigation regarding the possession and sales of heroin in and around the city of Fulton.

Two-Vehicle Crash Claims Life In Scriba

At about 3:05 p.m. today (Feb. 17), members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident that occurred on County Route 53 in the town of Scriba that ended with one fatality. Identification of the deceased is pending family notifications. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

All of us need clean water to drink. If your family gets drinking water from a private well, do you know if the water is safe? What health risks do you and your family face? Where can you go for help or advice? “Contaminated water can be a threat to your health. If your drinking water comes from a household well, you alone are responsible for assuring that it is safe,” said Jiancheng Huang, Oswego County Public Health Director.

Oswego VEX Robotics Team Repeats as Northern New York State Champions

Oswego robotics team won the Northern NY VEX Skyrise State Championship for the second year in a row and now qualifies for the world championship competition. Freezing Code (#9282) is a team of seven local youth (from grades 9-11), which is in its second year of building and programming robots. The team will now have the opportunity to compete against VEX robotics teams from all around the world.

Oswego Councilor Barlow Denounces Alternate Parking, Demands Re-evaluation

As winter continues with severe weather and endless amounts of snowfall, city Councilor Billy Barlow (R-Fifth Ward) urges the mayor and councilors to rethink the alternate parking policy and move to a more practical solution. Public outcry continues to increase over the conditions of roadways and congestion of streets, the councilor said. “The alternate parking policy is an utter disaster, enough is enough,” said Barlow. “The conditions of our roadways are in no way a reflection of the DPW’s ability to plow, but a product of a poor parking policy.”
