Oswego is going to the movies, thanks to Oswego County Federal Credit Union. At its meeting Monday night the Physical Services Committee approved a request by William Carhart, CEO of the credit union, to use East Park to host a series of “Movies in the Park” during the summer months.

It was just a shade cooler than normal last month. Precipitation was more than 2 inches below average. And, snowfall was more than 7 inches below average for the month and 42 inches below average for the winter.

Eagle Beverage and the Oswego City School District are partnering up to host two nationally known guest speakers that specialize in bringing awareness to underage drinking. The first event takes place April 15 at Oswego High School with guest speaker MJ Corcoran.

For about the past six months, Makayla Walker has been battling an abdominal desmoid tumor. It is, in fact, so aggressive – it’s classified as a cancer. This weekend it was apparent she wasn’t in this fight alone. Hundreds crowded into the American Legion on West Bridge Street to give the Oswego youngster some emotional support as well as financial.

The high school recently hosted an anti-bullying conference and motivational speaker Brooks Gibbs. The school started an Anti-Bully group, which usually has 10-15 student participants and meets after school.

The sun gave one of its seemingly rare appearances in Oswego County on Saturday afternoon as friends and family gathered on Engles Road to say goodbye to the four men who lost their lives in a car crash late Monday night. A steady stream of people walked down the hills on either side of the crash site until the road was packed. Many mourners wore T-shirts commemorating the young men who lost their lives.

Recently sightings of Bald Eagles have been reported along the Oswego River. Several have been spotted in the Minetto area starting by Gray Road to just before the Midway Drive-In. “Bald eagles are known for congregating near areas with open water, and Oswego County has several pristine natural areas, such as the Salmon River corridor, that attract our national bird,” said David Turner, director of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning.

SUNY Oswego’s Golden Romney Field House has reopened to limited spring practices as work wraps up on a $2 million project to breathe new athletic life into the college’s former ice hockey home. “It’s a transformation,” said Nicholas Lyons, vice president for administration and finance. “It came out very, very well.”
