On Wednesday at about 6:05 a.m. the Oswego City Police Department’s Anti -Crime Team with the assistance of the Special Response Team executed a search warrant at 257 Syracuse Ave., Apartment #1, Oswego. As a result, investigators located and seized 14 bags of heroin and two residents were arrested.

The towns of Minetto, Oswego and Scriba recently took action to seek a review of the city of Oswego Fire Department’s Ambulance Service Certificate by the New York State Department of Health. The three town boards adopted similar resolutions authorizing the Scriba to pursue a review by the Commissioner of Health of the city’s operating territory.

Assemblyman Will Barclay issued a statement Thursday following news of proposed legislation mandating current firearm owners and potential owners to take out a $1 million liability insurance policy.

On Thursday, Oswego County joined the growing number of counties officially voicing opposition to the governor’s NY SAFE Act. While admitting there were some good parts in the new law, legislators voted 25-0 to encourage state officials to go back and re-do the law.

Lilly Ledbetter, an activist for equal pay for women since standing up for her rights at an Alabama tire company, will headline SUNY Oswego’s Ernst & Young Lecture Series at SUNY Oswego with a free presentation at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 in the Sheldon Hall ballroom.

The county’s Health and Highway departments used Girl Scout cookies as a substitute for medical supplies during a drill to simulate the receiving and distribution of emergency medical supplies on Wednesday. The ‘supplies’ were unloaded, sorted and distributed to sites around the county.

The symposium runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 6 and from 9 a.m. to noon on April 7. There will be a meet-and-greet social with cash bar, a presentation of the painting of the Brig Oneida by Oswego artist Tim Ames, and early registration from 6 to 9 p.m. April 5.

At Tuesday’s school board meeting, the district approved a settlement of the tax challenge brought by Indeck-Oswego, seeking a reduction of the assessed value of the Oswego Steam Station. The assessed value will drop from $10,000,000 to $5,542,000 for tax year 2009-10; $3,500,000 for tax year 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13, with refunds paid based on reduced assessments.

An investigation by the New York State Police BCI in Fulton has resulted in the arrest of Joseph D. Chesare Jr., 44, of 28 Brown Drive, Oswego, NY, for Burglary in the 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony.
