The group, organized by Jim Farfaglia, Alex Grimshaw and a number of other volunteer supporters, was formed to bring awareness to the good things happening in the Fulton community. The meeting included multiple community guest speakers presenting on a variety of subjects relevant to the Fulton community.
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced (July 9) that more than $18 million in economic development funding has been approved for 19 projects that are generating economic growth statewide. The funding, approved by Empire State Development’s Board of Directors, supports projects that are creating 403 new jobs and retaining 1,474 existing New York State jobs.
As law enforcement officials across the region continue to wage war on drugs like heroin and meth, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $50,000 to assist Oswego County in its fight to combat illegal substances.
At its meeting Thursday, the Oswego County Legislature designated July 26 as Americans with Disabilities Awareness Day to promote education about advocacy, resources and services available to county residents. Sabine Ingerson, director of Oswego ARISE shared the history of the ADA with the legislators. ARISE is a center for independent living.
Fulton resident John McEachen competed at the World Police and Fire Games, which were held in Fairfax, Va., from June 29 to July 5. McEachen is a Border Patrol Agent at the Oswego Station.
Oswego Mayor Tom Gillen has announced that construction work at the city of Oswego Water Plant will be continuing through the summer. The upgrades to the treatment facility involve rebuilding filters and will reduce the production capacity of the plant by 25% while the work is in process.
Starting this week, smokers will be asked to refrain from using Tobacco products at the Fulton Farmers’ Market. The Tobacco Free Network of CNY, with the support of the city of Fulton, the Oswego County Health Department and the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, announced the market will be a tobacco-free event starting July 11. According to a resolution passed by the Fulton Common Council this week, “from this date forward:” no tobacco products are to be used within the farmers’ market barriers.
An Albany-based casting company is looking for males and females, ages 18 to 60-plus, to play background extras in an independent short film being filmed in Oswego July 13 and 14. No experience is necessary. Actors and actresses must take direction well and have good reactive expressions. All ethnicities are encouraged to apply.
With the end of the school year came the conclusion of Fulton City School District’s spring sports season. G. Ray Bodley High School and Fulton Junior High School had very successful spring seasons including multiple scholar athlete teams, individual honors and distinctions and new school records.
