The school board and superintendent will meet Thursday for a workshop aimed at hammering out details of the 2015-16 budget. The district is also talking with the city police department regarding renting space at the Education Center.
The end of the spring semester of classes at SUNY Oswego last year was celebrated by some students, residents and visitors participating in the “Bridge Street Run.” This unsanctioned, event in the city of Oswego was the source of many areas of concern, ranging from disruptive behavior to dangerous and unhealthy decision making, according to Mayor Tom Gillen. “This year, the city fully supports SUNY Oswego’s efforts to redirect the celebratory atmosphere by presenting the SUNY Oswego Ozfest. Our hope is that, by working together, we can develop this event into a dynamic and fun weekend that will take advantage of all that Oswego has to offer, while providing the structure and oversight necessary to help reduce the problem behaviors of years past,” the mayor said.
Prosecutors in the Heidi Allen hearing hoped to wrap up their final witnesses by mid week. However, a DNA test on a knife found in Michael Bohrer’s apartment in 2014 could take up to 30 days to return with results; further prolonging the hearing that could define the future of Gary Thibodeau, the man prosecuted for her disappearance in 1994. Thibodeau has been behind bars for Allen’s abduction for 21 years.
UPDATE: The two suspects have reportedly been identified.
The Fulton Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two individuals in regard to a larceny investigation at a local grocery store.
Nonprofits big and small received grants totaling $410,000 from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation in the first of three 2015 grant rounds at its March board meeting. Projects reach a wide range of people and organizations that focus on education, community revitalization, economic growth, nutrition and fitness, and capital campaigns.
Who is responsible for sidewalk repair was discussed for more than 10 minutes at Monday night’s Planning and Development Committee. In the end, councilors left the door open for further discussion; but, took no action. Third Ward Councilor Mike Todd said the city should have a clear policy regarding who is responsible for repairing sidewalks.
While the Oswego Lighthouse restoration project is well under way, the H. Lee White Maritime Museum committee felt it needed some fresh ideas in order to make the “Love Our Lighthouse” as successful as can be. Those fresh new ideas came in the form of four Oswego university students with a vast arrange of skills. The two seniors of the group are Chris Urato and Jack Gonzalez along with Audrey Diaz and Haliegh O’Sullivan who are both juniors.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Friday (April 3), investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force, pursuant to a narcotics investigation, conducted a traffic stop on State Route 48 near Vann Drive in the town of Granby. Upon further investigation, investigators located and seized 23.4 grams of crack cocaine, having an approximate street value of $2,400 as well as nine bags of heroin having an approximate street value of $180, according to the police report.
A fresh layer of snow on the ground did not stop the kids of Fulton and Oswego from participating in the Children’s Museum of Oswego’s free Easter egg hunt Saturday. Two separate egg hunts were held; one in the morning at West Park in Oswego and one in the afternoon at C.V. Abbot Park in Fulton.
Hundreds of people, young and old, dedicated part of their holiday weekend to supporting a youngster most have never actually met. Still, they all consider Julian Ross a part of their family. Julian was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma on August 4, 2011. He was just 6 years old. In early March, 9-year-old Julian was put on Hospice care.
