Nearly $13 Million Allocated for Upgrades at Central and Northern New York Colleges

State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced the new State Budget will include nearly $13 million to help local colleges improve the learning experience for students by making upgrades to their campuses. Included in the spending plan is $6.65 million for SUNY Oswego, $1.95 million for SUNY Canton and $4.35 million for Jefferson Community College.

Oswego School Board Concludes March With Busy Agenda

The Oswego City School District Board of Education did much more than hear about the (budgetary) obstacles confronting it at the final regular meeting of March. A full agenda awaited the board members as they sat down. In the “Board of Education” portion of the agenda, approval was granted for a proposed policy relating to “Entitlement to Attend-Age and Residency” policy as well as the pupil instructional calendar for 2015-16.

Testing of new emergency notification sirens to begin week of April 6

Testing of the new Nine Mile Point emergency notification sirens installed by Exelon Generation and Entergy Nuclear will begin the week of April 6. Residents may hear individual soundings of sirens in short bursts for the next few weeks as the startup and commissioning is completed. Full testing of the new sirens will be announced by Exelon Generation when a schedule is established, and will not affect the published schedule of the siren system currently in place

An estimated more than 300 people, young and old, subjected themselves to the “Ultimate Polar Shower.” “This really says a lot about our community,” the mayor said. “It’s like 15 degrees and the windchill is even colder and all these people have come out to help support Special Olympics. This is really a great turnout for a great cause!” Due to the hard-packed snow and ice in the harbor – the ‘plunge’ was re-invented as The Ultimate Polar Shower.
