The County of Oswego Industrial Development Agency presented its annual report to the Oswego County Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee on Monday (February 23). The report provides an account of COIDA’s activities in the 2013-2014 Fiscal Year, which ran from August 1, 2013 to July 31, 2014. During this highly productive period, COIDA supported 30 projects that have or will be investing more than $264 million in Oswego County.

The Oswego City School District is now accepting petitions for the Board of Education for the 2015-16 school budget vote and board of education election in May. Oswego City School District will be filling two three-year seats on the Oswego City School District Board of Education during the May election.

The severe cold impacting the region in recent weeks has impacted the City of Oswego’s infrastructure, causing several neighborhoods to be without water due to frozen water lines. Mayor Thomas W. Gillen said the below zero temperatures have caused water lines in several neighborhoods to freeze, leaving residents without water. “It’s possible people will be without utilities, specifically water, for an extended period of time, potentially for several days,” the mayor said.

The leadership from every State University of New York campus in the Central New York area on Wednesday (Feb. 25) called on local legislative leaders to continue their bold leadership in supporting New York’s public higher education sector by creating a new Investment Fund and extending NYSUNY 2020 — including the broadly successful rational tuition policy — in the 2015-16 New York State Budget.

Student redistricting has been a long-term concern for the Oswego City School District and administration is attempting to alleviate the massive differences between the elementary schools. However, because one school possesses a state labeled “focus” title, the redistricting effort is a little more difficult.

The City of Oswego Traffic Department will be establishing Temporary No Parking zones in selected areas throughout the city over the next few days. This temporary posting will allow the city’s DPW personnel to clear existing snow piles to the curb line, the mayor said. It will also enable them to cut back existing snow banks that obscure vision to drivers and endanger pedestrian traffic. These temporary signs will be identified by their bright orange color.
