Residents Voice Opposition To City’s Winter Parking Policy

Nearly a dozen speakers Monday night told Oswego councilors the city’s odd-even overnight parking policy is doing more harm than good. The majority urged city officials to do away with the policy. Councilors took no action on the matter. However, it will be a topic of further discussions for a long time.

Local State of Emergency Still In Effect

The State of Emergency imposed last week by Mayor Thomas Gillen remains in effect for the city of Oswego. According to Oswego DPW Commissioner Michael Smith, more than 30 properties have had their water services restored but there are still more than a dozen who remain without water as the work continues. It is EXTREMELY important that residents continue to have their water running (about the diameter of a pencil) without interruption until further notice.

Swim, Bike, Run and Register For Tri-Oswego 2015

Registration for the fourth annual Tri-Oswego Triathlon is open, according to race director Christopher Jones. The USAT Sanctioned event will take place June 20 at Breitbeck Park on Lake Ontario in Oswego. The fourth-annual event will showcase athletes from throughout the Northeastern United States and Canada.

Utica Man Facing Felony Drug Charges In Oswego

On February 26 investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force, assisted by officers of the Oswego City Police Department, stopped a Chevrolet Cobalt on State Route 481 north of County Route 57 in the city of Oswego. The ensuing investigation resulted in search warrants being issued and 8.2 grams of heroin were recovered from the person of Eugene J. Gibbs, 23, of 745 South St., Apartment #1, Utica, according to police.

For a winter break, with the Oswego River and Canal frozen, the local Oswego paddling group enjoyed a beautiful day, xc-skiing and snowshoeing at Great Bear Recreational Area. With the abundance of snow, the trails at Great Bear are well suited for xc-skiing and snowshoeing. Great Bear is a non-motoriized share the trail area, just south of Fulton, adjacent to Route 57. Febrrr-uary Was Cold – But Not ‘Coldest’

February 2015 was cold – really cold. But it wasn’t the coldest on record, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. The average temperature last month was 14.1 degrees. That is 11.3 degrees below average. “That’s pretty darn cold; but, we weren’t as cold as inland places like Syracuse,” Gregway said. “We didn’t have any big below zero readings like they did. Lake Ontario actually helped keep us warmer.”
