Oswego Opens Water Station; Red Cross Maintains Oswego Shelter

UPDATE 1:30 p.m. Feb 27: Port City Opens Water Station For Those In Need
The City of Oswego has opened a water station at the East Side Fire Station, 35 E. Cayuga St., for those residents who are experiencing frozen water services. Those effected may obtain potable water at anytime by using the East Seneca Street entrance of the fire station. Residents must bring their own containers.
The shelter opened by the American Red Cross at Laker Hall on the campus of SUNY Oswego Wednesday night will remain open at least through Sunday.

Protect Yourself and Your Water Pipes in Cold Weather

The Oswego County Health Department confirmed today (Feb. 26) that there are a number of frozen water service lines in several public water systems in the county. “This has been a severe winter weather season for many of us,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “With the recent number of reports of freezing water pipes, we want to make sure that people are taking the proper precautions to protect themselves and their property.”

The County of Oswego Industrial Development Agency presented its annual report to the Oswego County Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee on Monday (February 23). The report provides an account of COIDA’s activities in the 2013-2014 Fiscal Year, which ran from August 1, 2013 to July 31, 2014. During this highly productive period, COIDA supported 30 projects that have or will be investing more than $264 million in Oswego County.

Shelter open for Oswego residents impacted by frozen water lines

The severe cold impacting the region in recent weeks has impacted the City of Oswego’s infrastructure, causing several neighborhoods to be without water due to frozen water lines. Mayor Thomas W. Gillen said the below zero temperatures have caused water lines in several neighborhoods to freeze, leaving residents without water. “It’s possible people will be without utilities, specifically water, for an extended period of time, potentially for several days,” the mayor said.
