Fulton Officer Gets Prison Time For Hitting Handcuffed Man

A former sergeant with the Fulton Police Department was sentenced today (Jan. 23) in federal court to 15 months in prison and three years probation for beating a handcuffed man inside the Fulton police station. The Department of Public Justice Office of Public Affairs noted in a press release that Joseph Arigo, 47, pleaded guilty before a federal court judge in September to one count of deprivation of rights under color of law.

Oswego School Calendar Planning Under Way For Next Year; Late April Break Possible

It is anticipated that the 2015-16 Oswego City School District calendar will be approved during a near future session of the board of education. At the early January meeting, Superintendent of Schools Ben Halsey provided the board members with a draft of a proposed schedule for the next school year. Halsey said, “The superintendents want consistency across the county.” Lengthy discussion has been conducted among Oswego County superintendents and there could still be some adjustments to the proposed calendar.

Sunoco Ethanol Fulton Plant Receives $200,000 Regional Economic Development Council Grant

The Sunoco ethanol manufacturing facility in Fulton has received a $200,000 grant as part of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s $709.2 Million New York State Economic Development Resource Initiative. The grant will help support construction costs of an estimated $1 million weigh station consisting of two scales and a scale house at Owens Road and Route 57.
