Annexation Battle Over; Fulton Taxpayer Burden Relieved

The two year legal land battle between the city of Fulton and the town of Granby was put to rest last week when the Fulton Common Council took the last step and voted to approve the new city map, which now includes the Wastewater Treatment Plant on city-owned property. “This is the last leg of the annexation,” Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward said during the council meeting Sept. 2.

Health Officials Report More EEE and WNV Found In Oswego County

The Oswego County Health Department reported that the Eastern equine encephalitis virus has been found in ten new mosquito samples collected last week. Five of the samples were taken from West Monroe’s Toad Harbor Big Bay Swamp area, two near the village of Central Square, two from the town of New Haven, and one near NYS Route 104 in the town of Albion. The West Nile Virus has been found in one mosquito sample collected near the village of Central Square.

ALANA multicultural celebration to incorporate festivals from around world

SUNY Oswego’s 28th annual ALANA Student Leadership Conference multicultural celebration Sept. 18-24 will feature performances, presenters, a peace walk through the city of Oswego and a mini-carnival highlighting festivals from across the globe. A collaboration of student organizations under the banner African, Latino, Asian and Native American organization, the ALANA team this year chose “Carnivals and Festivals” as a theme to celebrate all cultures, whether minority or not.

CNY Great Pumpkin Festival seeks record setting Pumpkin Carving Contest

Feeling artistic? The Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce will host a Pumpkin Carving Contest during this year’s CNY Great Pumpkin Festival to be held October 4 and 5 in Oswego’s Washington Square Park. Planning committee members have their sights set at breaking the official record for the most lit jack-o-lanterns in one location. That record, which is currently held by the Keene, NH, Pumpkin Festival, is a total 30,581 jack-o-lanterns.
