At about 1:41 p.m. today July 15), the Oswego City Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team with assistance from the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and United Sates Border Patrol executed a search warrant at 956 Middle Road, Lot 6W, in the town of Scriba. The resident was charged with two drug-related felonies.
Tonight’s (July 15) scheduled Oswego City School District Board of Education meeting has been rescheduled for July 22. That meeting will be held at the Education Center Curriculum Room at 120 E. First St.
Fort Ontario and Oswego Harbor will be the scene of a recreation of the May 5-6, 1814 Battle of Oswego during Harborfest 2014. On July 26, at 2 p.m., tall ships, gunboats, cannon, and re-enactors will follow in the waves and footsteps of American and British forces who defended and attacked Oswego in a desperate struggle for control of Lake Ontario.
At Monday night’s Common Council meeting, by a 5-1-1 vote, councilors approved the bid submitted by North Eastern Rescue Vehicles for a new ambulance. Also, the council unanimously approved closing Sheldon Beach (north end of Sixth Avenue) during Harborfest.
SUNY Oswego University Police charged Michael W. Decare, 54, of 10 Gregory St., Oswego, with two felonies following an investigation into an incident in Funnelle Hall. Decare faces charges of third-degree criminal mischief and third-degree attempted grand larceny.
A fire in the house on the corner of VanBuren Street and Kimball Avenue Sunday (July 13) afternoon has displaced a Fulton family this evening.
While travelers may think it looks like construction has stopped, the concrete poured for the north lanes of the Broadway Bridge that carries State Route 3 over the Oswego River is very busy curing below the deck surface and it will be several weeks before all lanes east and west will finally re-open.
In an effort to empower children to make healthy food choices and introduce them to the local food system, The Children’s Museum of Oswego (CMOO) is presenting the Power of Produce (POP) program.
CMOO’s Power of Produce program began in June and runs through October at the Oswego Farmers’ Market every other Thursday 4:30 – 8 p.m., on West First Street.
UPDATE: The city of Fulton Police Department has charged an 18-year police veteran with assault and records falsification after receiving a complaint from a man alleging he was punched in the head while handcuffed and in police custody. In his statement the man allegedly said, “‘Are you serious? Are you going to beat my a** with handcuffs behind my back?’ Sgt. Arigo then punched me with his left fist and split open my temple.”
