While travelers may think it looks like construction has stopped, the concrete poured for the north lanes of the Broadway Bridge that carries State Route 3 over the Oswego River is very busy curing below the deck surface and it will be several weeks before all lanes east and west will finally re-open.
In an effort to empower children to make healthy food choices and introduce them to the local food system, The Children’s Museum of Oswego (CMOO) is presenting the Power of Produce (POP) program.
CMOO’s Power of Produce program began in June and runs through October at the Oswego Farmers’ Market every other Thursday 4:30 – 8 p.m., on West First Street.
UPDATE: The city of Fulton Police Department has charged an 18-year police veteran with assault and records falsification after receiving a complaint from a man alleging he was punched in the head while handcuffed and in police custody. In his statement the man allegedly said, “‘Are you serious? Are you going to beat my a** with handcuffs behind my back?’ Sgt. Arigo then punched me with his left fist and split open my temple.”
Today (July 11), Fulton Police Sergeant Joseph R. Arigo, was charged with the following:
Assault 3rd Degree – class A misdemeanor
Falsifying Business Records – class A misdemeanor
Making a Punishable False Written Statement – class A misdemeanor
The following items were stolen from the business, a Timberwolf Pro-MP wood processor and a Timberwolf TW-3 HD-36 wood splitter. The suspect vehicle was captured on security camera and is described as a dark pickup truck, with no tailgate and with a tool box in the back.
Recent budget cuts have eliminated anti-drug counseling in many local schools and the lack of programs, especially for young people, was one of the top issues identified at Senator Ritchie’s Heroin and Opioid Abuse Forum, which took place in Watertown in May.
A resolution urging the US Congress to reject the recommendation by the International Joint Commission to adopt Plan 2104 (regarding lake levels) was approved Thursday by the county legislature. Plan 2014, as proposed, doesn’t contain commitments to keep lake levels below 250 feet above sea level, according to county lawmakers. Opponents of the plan say that it will result in significant erosion and other damage.
Fulton businessman Mark Sherman was on the scene at the Midway Drive-In Theater Tuesday night but not for the reason he originally anticipated. Sherman owns Letters Signs & Specialties, at 805 S. Fourth St., and he just completed the renovation of the historic landmark’s marquee.
As the city of Oswego continues to recover from the devastating storm that occurred yesterday, we want to remind residents how to remain safe in the affected areas. The storm left several neighborhoods with trees down, utility poles broken, and downed wires. Current estimations from National Grid state that 21,000 residents are without power in the Central New York area and their officials were unsure when power will be restored. National Grid has arranged several pick-up points for dry ice, water, and more information regarding the power outages.
In the moments after the storm passed last night (July 8) the proprietor of one of the country’s few remaining drive-in theaters stood quietly near the projection room looking toward the destroyed movie screen. “It’s going to be a few days before we know what the insurance will say,” Midway Drive-In Theater owner John Nagelschmidt said.
