Jefferson County’s public schools will receive $8.7 million in additional aid, Oswego County schools will receive $5.4 million, and 12 districts in St. Lawrence County that are included in Senator Ritchie’s district will receive $6.1 million additional.

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation marked the opening of the Seaway’s 56th navigation season today (March 28), with the transit of Algoma Central Corporation’s newly built ship, the Algoma Equinox, through Lock 3 of the Welland Canal. In September 1969, US Senator Gaylord Nelson announced that there would be a nationwide grassroots demonstration taking place in the spring of 1970, in support of the environment. Since then, Earth Day has been celebrated each year on April 22. Today, Earth Day has spread to numerous countries across the globe. Oswego County’s Earth Week is set April 25 to May 4.
On April 3, the Fulton Police Department, along with law enforcement officers around the state, will participate in an Operation Safe Stop day. During “Safe Stop,” police officers are in marked patrol units enforcing the New York State Traffic Law which requires all vehicles to stop for stopped school busses with their red lights flashing.
The city of Fulton slashed its public library funding this year and now school tax payers will decide if they want to continue supporting the institution as trustees work to restore revenue by asking voters to establish a school district public library.
Alluding to the past five years of city budget cuts, Fulton City Library Board of Trustees President Marian Stanton said, “We haven’t had stable funding. When push comes to shove, the library gets shoved.”
