Watch Out Boys: Jessica Zemken Becomes First Woman to Qualify for International Classic 200 at Oswego Speedway

(Bill Taylor Photo)On an afternoon full of storylines during pole day qualifying for the Budweiser International Classic 200 at Oswego Speedway, none was more historical than that of Jessica Zemken looking to become the first woman to qualify for the richest Supermodified race in the world.On Friday night, with a lap of 16.590 seconds at 135.624 mph, history was indeed made, as Zemken officially clocked in 10th quick locking herself into the starting field for Sunday’s 200-lapper which is set to take the green at 3 p.m.

Oswego Port Receives Large Grant

UPDATE 5:30 PM:  Senator Charles Schumer has just informed the mayor’s office that the Port of Oswego Authority has been awarded a $1.5 million grant that will fund the construction of a significant new rail link at the Port. Senator Schumer was committed to working with the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Anthony Foxx, to position the Oswego project for a TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant.

Oswego Board of Education Welcomes New Member

The Oswego City School District Board of Education will once again have seven active members. On September 10 Michael McLaughlin will take the oath of office to serve for the remainder of the 2013-14 school year as a member of the board of education. McLaughlin will be sworn in at the committee and regular meeting of the board at the Oswego High School Anthony J. Murabito Media Center.
