The New York State Department of Health has notified the Oswego County Health Department that more evidence of the West Nile virus (WNV) was found in two different mosquito pools collected on August 21. One of the pools is located in the town of Constantia and it is the first positive finding in that township. The second pool is in the town of New Haven where the WNV has been found earlier this summer.

Two parcels had their assessments lowered. They will receive refunds based on their reduced assessments. The resolutions took effect immediately.

The county will seek proposals to clean up and demolish the site along Route 481. They will also have to decide what to do with the site once it is cleared. Their decision will have an impact on the county’s DMV office and records center, which is located on the same parcel.

The Common Council approved amendments to the Noise, Parties and Other Social Events section as well as to Chapter 249, Vacant and Occupied Property Maintenance, Section 249-10.1, Emergency Conditions.

The H. Lee White Marine Museum held an anniversary party Sunday to recognize the historic US Army tugboat the LT-5. The ceremony also paid tribute to several of Oswego County’s World War II veterans.

State Senator Patty Ritchie announced she has secured a second round of special funding, bringing the total of aid she delivered to libraries in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties to more than $160,000.

The Oswego City School District is in the midst of a search for its next Superintendent of Schools. Recruitment for the position has been under way for quite some time and applications for the position will be accepted through August 30. Following this application period the recruitment timeline allows for ample time to coordinate interviews and select a candidate to assume responsibilities in January 2014.
