Oswego Council Votes to Reduce Fire Department

The positions are currently vacant, but the firefighters’ union says they were in the 2013 budget to be filled to keep the staffing at safe levels. If they can’t work things out with the city, the union may file a grievance against the city to return the positions to the budget.

Out of State Motorist Arrested For DWI

On June 9 troopers out of SP Fulton observed a vehicle with South Carolina registration stopped along the shoulder of State Route 3 in Volney. Troopers stopped to check on the welfare of the driver, 35-year-old Sean S. Smith of West Columbia, SC. During the interview, troopers observed that Mr. Smith appeared to be intoxicated.

Several Riverwalk Murals Vandalized

In the spring of 2009, the Port City approved a plan that would enhance the waterfront while also helping to curtail the blight of graffiti that had been encroaching into the the Riverwalk west area. Over the years, young, volunteer artists created colorful artworks along the riverwalk. Just recently, some have been damaged by vandals with black spray paint.

Richland Man Charged With Falsifying Business Records for Controlled Substances

On June 6, the New York State Police in Watertown assisted New York State Department of Health, Narcotics Division with the arrest of Carson F. Fanning of Richland. He is alleged to have had several controlled substance withdrawal, administration, and wasting discrepancies between December of 2012 and April of 2013.

CNY Arts Center celebrates grand opening of ARTs in the HeART Gallery

CNY Arts Center has been looking to expand for a while, and with the addition of CNY Arts Gallery, located at 47 First St., that goal is being realized. The original location of CNY Arts is at the State Street Church in Fulton and is a space where classes are held and the staff offices are located. “We didn’t have enough space for our artists to display work,” explained Bonnie McClellen, the gallery coordinator.
