“She is basically a pet,” said Sgt. Craig Westbrook. “Just like any dog, you take her for a walk or throw a Frisbee. All that stuff I didn’t do when she was a police dog, because you don’t want them to associate a tennis ball or a Frisbee with fun. Then when you’re trying to use them to work she comes across a tennis ball and wants to play catch.”
At its regular monthly meeting tonight (June 26), the Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees approved the College’s 2013-14 budget, which includes a 3.5 percent, or approximately $140 a year, increase in tuition. The 2013-14 annual tuition will be $4,090 for full-time students, and the part-time rate will be $165 per credit.

The libraries – 15 in Jefferson County, six in St. Lawrence and four in Oswego County – will share $85,000 in special funding that’s in addition to a $4 million increase in state budget aid for libraries statewide. The Oswego County Health Department announces June is Rabies Awareness Month in New York State. The staff is working with the NYS Department of Health to raise public awareness about the dangers of rabies.
The Third Ward Councilors said one way the city can increase its revenues and improve the quality of life at the same time is by vigorously cracking down on repeat code violator and collecting fines. It’s time to look “long and hard” at the way the city enforces its codes and possibly make some changes, Councilor Mike Todd said.
Through the Expeditionary Learning’s Common Core ELA Curriculum, FJHS students read the novel A Long Walk to Water and learned about a world that is on the continent of Africa, in the country of South Sudan, and during a time when children as young as six fled their villages and left their parents to escape war and starvation. In conjunction with the novel and classroom activities, former ‘Lost Boy’ Chol Majok was invited to share some of his personal experience with the students during a recent visit.
