The Common Council will soon be considering a resolution that will result in the elimination of positions within the fire department. There are currently four newly created vacancies that were included in the 2013 budget and anticipated to be filled. This comes as a surprise, based on the fact that we recently suffered cuts to daily staffing and made concessions through contract negotiations to accommodate the 2013 budget.

Councilors are looking at the elimination of positions within the fire department. The four newly created vacancies were included in the 2013 budget and anticipated to be filled, according to the Firefighters’ Association. Also being considered is an increase in the department’s billing schedule.
Last month was the 6th warmest May on record, despite not setting any high temperature records. Total precipitation last month was slightly below average and the snowfall was nonexistent.
On June 1 the Thank a Service Member charity in partnership with Macy’s paid tribute to local veterans during a public ceremony at Great Northern Mall. During the event Peter Allen, founder and executive director of TASM, presented each of the veterans with a special medallion intended to honor their service and serve as a lasting reminder of the appreciation of a grateful community.

For more than five years the Fulton Police Department has been hosting its annual bike rodeo for local kids at the War Memorial. Overall, the event aims “To get the bike safety word out,” said Traffic Lt. Jason Delano who has been in charge of the event for the past three years.
Cars lined up at Bullhead Point in Fulton on Saturday morning to drop off everything from TVs to irons during Senator Patty Ritchie’s Electronics Recycling Event. “People started coming before it was open today,” Senator Ritchie told Oswego County Today. The event also doubled as a donation for United Way of Oswego County.
On Sunday, May 5, at approximately 4:09 a.m. the city of Oswego Police Department investigated a reported sexual assault. Police said today (May 31) that a subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Frank J. Braatsch, 22, of Building 685 Lewis Avenue apartment 308 Fort Drum.
Oswego County health advocates have seen enough marketing from the tobacco industry. That’s the message they’ll be emphasizing today, May 31, World No Tobacco Day, along with partners around New York State and the world. According to the Surgeon General, tobacco industry marketing is a cause of youth tobacco use.
