The Lakeside Winterguard hosted the ‘Cancer is a Drag Show’ at the American Foundry in Oswego. “All the raffle money gets donated to Relay for Life, plus the tips from the performers,” said the evening’s host Macy Parade. “The full amount is going to Relay for Life.” Over the course of the night seven drag queens and one drag king performed for the crowd. Each began on stage and then milled around the room collecting tips from fans.
The grant will support ORA’s community development initiatives, beginning with the engagement of neighborhood planning firm, CZB (www.czb.org). ORA will work with CZB over the next nine months to collect data and engage the community in a thorough examination of Oswego’s strengths and opportunities.
The Oswego High School Top 100 students were recognized for the twenty-fourth consecutive year. Several hundred people packed the Oswego High School Dining Hall for the annual “Top 100” dinner. This year, Oswego Rotary, PathFinder Bank, NBT Bank, and the Oswego City School District hosted the event with the Oswego City School District Food Service Department supplying a buffet extravaganza.

John Nagelschmidt wanted to do something different to mark 80 years of drive-in theaters in America. This Friday night, Midway Drive-In in Minetto will show Going Attractions a documentary film directed by April Wright as part of a triple feature. The documentary will screen between family-friendly Epic and comedy classic Young Frankenstein. Wright frequented drive-in theaters growing up and made the film to answer the question: what happened to them?
This won’t be your ‘typical’ museum, organizers said. It’s going to be hands-on experience with self-directed play for the kids. Exhibits will focus on aspects of current and historical local significance, imaginative play, the arts, science and mathematics. Children will be encouraged to touch, move, build, make noise and explore.

The Common Council will soon be considering a resolution that will result in the elimination of positions within the fire department. This comes as a surprise, based on the fact that we recently suffered cuts to daily staffing and made concessions through contract negotiations to accommodate the 2013 budget.
