The threat of rain continues overnight. Low in the 40s. More clouds than sun on Saturday. But the high will move up to the 60s.
Jessica Naioti had trouble finding childcare for her 2 ½ year old son, Benjamin. Seeing this need for drop-in childcare in Oswego County, as well as a place for teens to hang out inspired the idea for Sunshine Community and Childcare Center, located on Schuyler Street in the former Red’s Videos storefront.
Authorities are searching for the cause of Thursday’s fire in Granby. Multiple fire departments responded to the fire on County Route 8 near Cedarwood Drive shortly after 5 p.m. There were no reports of any injuries.
On Thursday, the Oswego Fire Department units along with Animal Control personnel responded to a report of a deer stranded on the rock wall in the center of the river. Fire Department personnel responded in the fire/rescue boat and carefully eased the deer to shore to awaiting animal control personnel.
This annual event usually attracts a standing room only audience and once again the Oswego High School student-musicians will have an incredible opportunity to work with an outstanding jazz musician. Wayne Bergeron is enjoying a career as one of the most active players in the world. With studio dates, International touring, jazz concerts, guest soloist appearances and clinics, he has no intention of slowing down.
The Richard S. Shineman Foundation announced it has awarded Enable a $10,000 grant to expand its parenting program for families of children with autism into Oswego County.
Enabling Parents is a six-week education class that helps parents and caregivers better understand and care for children with an autism spectrum disorder or behavioral issues. The training will cover topics such as measuring and managing behavior, identifying triggers, monitoring progress and communicating with school personnel.
A public meeting will be held on June 5 to help draft the Eastern Lake Ontario Unit Management Plan, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced. The meeting sessions will be held at the DEC’s Salmon River Fish Hatchery, 2133 County Route 22, Altmar, from 10 a.m. to noon, 2 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The budget calls for a reduction of 8.6 positions. The head of the district’s CSEA is concerned that further reductions in staff would have a negative impact on the workers’ ability to perform all their duties. Some board members say they will do what they can to keep CSEA staffing at optimal levels.
