Oswego County residents have saved more than $4 million in prescription drug costs by using the Pro-Act prescription discount card, Legislator John Proud, chairman of the Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee, said.
Rose Anthony, a former Granby town board member, said that Granby residents will “have to carry more taxes for you people in Fulton.” “Why don’t you people work your own problems out,” she asked.
But Fulton resident Don Ross noted that utilities should not be taxes. “It’s patently wrong for anybody to tax a waste treatment plant and we shouldn’t be stuck with it.”
The city’s fire chief requested permission to transfer money to cover the cost in short-term. Representatives from the city and the department will get together soon to find a way to alleviate the problem in the future.
Fire destroyed a home at 574 Peat Bed Rd. in Hannibal on Monday. Four people living in the home got out safely. Officials said the fire appeared to start in the back of the home. It spread rapidly.

The 420 Emporium may be closed and its owners headed for prosecution, but police expect synthetic drugs to remain a problem as they hope for more new laws to help them crack down on users and sellers.
Fulton’s 420 Emporium head shop was raided July 25 by federal agents and Fulton police during a nationwide crackdown on synthetic drugs brought about by a new federal law banning them.

The Oswego Firefighters and friends raised more than $15,700 on Saturday to assist a seven-year-old cancer patient and his family. “Thank you so much to everyone that helped make today’s benefit a huge success!” said Lt. Brooks Hourigan who spearheaded the event. “The final tally will amount to more than $15,700! Unbelievable! It couldn’t go to a more deserving family!”
The driver was charged following a chase that began in Fulton, went through Volney and ended in Scriba.
The National Weather Service warns that Saturday’s combination of heat, humidity and light winds will make temperatures feel like they’re above 100 degrees Saturday afternoon.
The weather service issued a heat advisory for the area, meaning that heat-related illnesses are possible.
