Contributing authors to the recently published book Sometimes The Wind Blows Sideways: Our Lives with a Special Needs Child gathered on Monday at the Oswego Arise office to celebrate their participation in raising awareness on special needs.
The Oswego school board has challenged the superintendent to present a 2012-13 budget with zero percent tax levy increase, or better. On April 17 the board is slated to vote on the tentative spending plan. The public vote is set for May 15.
State champions Drake Becksted and Cory Keefe returned to Oswego on Saturday evening celebrating a day which qualified them as the elite among their peers in their respective events. UPDATE: An East Syracuse man has been charged in connection with Monday morning’s drive-by shooting in the town of Granby. The investigation determined that five rounds from a firearm were discharged into the residence, nearly striking an 11-year-old occupant who was sleeping at the time. The suspect was remanded to the Onondaga County Justice Center on $100,000 cash/$200,000 bond.

Danielle Czyz is one of the more than two dozen AmeriCorps workers getting things done in Oswego County. “The goal of AmeriCorps is to bring Americans together to strengthen our community. You may see members serving in an organization that serves our community, a school, or a library,” she said.
The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team was one of three teams to receive an at-large bid into the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament on Sunday night. The Lakers (22-3-2) will host a quarterfinal game against the Elmira Soaring Eagles (15-8-3) on Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m.
Performances for Damn Yankees are scheduled for March 8, 9 and 10 in the Bodley H.S. Auditorium. Curtain time is set for 7:30 each evening. Additionally there will be a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. “Damn Yankees is a great story with wonderful music,” explained Tom Briggs, theatre director at Bodley. “It is a story of love, self-discovery and baseball. Set in the nostalgic 1950s, Damn Yankees is thought provoking and moving.”
The first order of subscriber units, portables, mobile and control stations will be submitted in May and training will coincide with the roll-out of the new equipment. Testing is scheduled to be conducted in June, July and August and the new system is on track to be fully deployed and accepted in September.
The top-ranked Oswego State men’s ice hockey team (22-3-2) nearly erased a two-goal deficit in the third period, but fourth-ranked Plattsburgh (19-4-4) held on to hand the Lakers a 3-2 loss in the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championship game Saturday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena.
