Melanie Trexler, executive director of the United Way, recognized “all the hard-working individuals who work for those agencies who address the needs of our community.  You are the unsung heroes of our county!”

Hannibal Board of Education Agenda for Wednesday

Hannibal’s Board of Education meets Wednesday night at 7:15.  The board will likely vote to change the spring break week because of the state’s late decision to schedule some state tests right in the middle of the week that’s already been scheduled.  Also, board members will meet this year’s foreign exchange students.  See the entire agenda inside.

Woodward Wins Fulton Republican Mayoral Primary

10:50 PM:  Results are finally complete: Ron Woodward has won the Republican primary for Mayor, beating Common Council member Tom Kenyon 361-229 in unofficial results.

Woodward got about 60% of the votes while Kenyon took about 39%.  There were 3 write-in votes recorded.

Kenyon will be on the ballot in November as the Conservative Party’s endorsed candidate.  An independent candidate, Ralph Stacy, Jr., will also run.

In the other primary in the city, Alan Emrich beat Woodward’s son, Ryan, in the race for the Republican endorsement to run for Common Council in the 1st Ward.

Two Firefighters Suffer Minor Injuries In Training Exercise

First Assistant Fire Chief Donald Dowd and Captain Peter Coffey were operating the fire department’s jet sled ”Beau” in the area of the Varick Street Hydro-Electric Plant when Captain Coffey, the operator of the boat, while transversing the river, struck a steel pole sideswiping off that pole forcing him to strike a second pole.
